Description

MOTORIZED PNEUMATIC CONVEYOR FIELD OF THE INVENTION The present invention relates to a mobile pneumatic conveyor. More particularly, the invention relates to a motorized pneumatic conveyor.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION Construction jobs often require the use of large amounts of crushed stone or aggregate material.
These types of jobs are generally done over a period of time, with the need for aggregate material being everywhere from virtually continuous to often interrupted over the duration of the job. For these jobs, the aggregate material must be available when needed, so that the workers are not waiting for aggregate. Usually, the aggregate is supplied to the workers by a pneumatic conveyor that delivers the aggregate to a desired place. An exemplary prior art pneumatic conveyor 1 is depicted in FIG.1. The prior art pneumatic conveyor 1 comprises a diesel engine and a compressor located inside a housing 3 and positioned on a wheel-based chassis 4. The compressor is further connected to a pressure vessel 2. The pressure vessel 2 is adapted to contain an aggregate material, which is loaded manually through an opening on the top of the pressure vessel 2. During the operation of the conveyor 1 the pressure vessel 2 is sealed by a hermetic lid and the aggregate is conveyed out of the exhaust port of the vessel and further by a hose to a construction site.
The manual loading of the conveyor and its limited mobility are known drawbacks of the prior art pneumatic conveyors. Therefore, there is a need for a more mobile pneumatic conveyor that can be run without a human loader.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION A motorized pneumatic conveyor according to an embodiment of the present invention includes an internal combustion engine, an air compressor and a pressure vessel mounted on a tracked chassis. The motorized pneumatic conveyor also includes a hydraulically operated scoop designed to empty its load into an opening of the pressure vessel and a control unit designed to operate and run the motorized pneumatic conveyor upon receiving control signals from a remote control.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS By way of example, embodiments of the present invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying figures of drawings in which: FIG. 1 is a perspective view of a prior art pneumatic conveyor.
FIG. 2 is a perspective view of a pneumatic conveyor according to an embodiment of the present invention.
FIG. 3 is perspective view of a flexible hose of a pneumatic conveyor according to an embodiment of the present invention.
FIG. 4 is a block diagram of a power unit and a remote control of a pneumatic conveyor according to an embodiment of the present invention.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION In the following detailed description of the invention, numerous specific details are set forth in order to provide a thorough understanding of the invention. However, it will be obvious to one skilled in the art that the invention may be used without these specific details. In other instances well-known methods, procedures, components, and elements are not described here in detail so as not to unnecessarily obscure aspects of the invention. It will be readily understood that the components of the present invention, as generally described and illustrated in the figures, may be arranged and designed in a wide variety of different configurations. Thus, the following more detailed description of the embodiments of the devices and methods of the present invention, as represented in the figures, is not intended to limit the scope of the invention, but is merely representative of selected embodiments of the invention.
Referring now to FIG.2, a general layout of a motorized pneumatic conveyor 10 is illustrated.
The motorized pneumatic conveyor 10 comprises a power unit 14 mounted on a tracked chassis . The tracked chassis 15 may be a motorized chassis or it can be powered by an engine or a motor located inside the power unit 14. The power unit 14 comprises a housing with an air compressor 17 powered by an internal combustion engine 16 (diesel engine). The motorized conveyor 10 further comprises a pressure vessel 12 connected to the air compressor 17 of the power unit 14. The motorized conveyor 10 further comprises a hydraulically operated scoop 11 for loading aggregate material (through a top opening 19) into the pressure vessel 12. The pressure vessel 12 also includes a lower opening 18 through which aggregate is forced out and delivered by a hose 20 to a construction site.
The motorized pneumatic conveyor 10 further includes a control unit 13 designed to be in a wireless communication with a remote control 21 held by an operator. The control unit 13 is attached to the power unit 14 and designed to operate and run the pneumatic conveyor 10 upon receiving control signals from a remote control 21. The motorized pneumatic conveyor could be instructed via a wireless link to perform various tasks, such as move from one place to another, scoop aggregate material from the ground, empty the scoop 11 to the pressure vessel 12, etc.
Although an illustrative embodiment has been shown and described, a wide range of modification, change and substitution is contemplated in the foregoing disclosure, and in some instances, some features of the embodiment may be employed without a corresponding use of other features. Accordingly, it is appropriate that the appended claims are construed broadly and in a manner consistent with the scope of the embodiment disclosed herein.
CLAIMS What is claimed is : 1. A motorized pneumatic conveyor comprising: a. an internal combustion engine, an air compressor and a pressure vessel mounted on a chassis, wherein said pressure vessel is connected to the air compressor, and wherein said air compressor is powered by the internal combustion engine; b. a hydraulically operated scoop designed to empty its load into a top opening of the pressure vessel; c. a control unit designed to operate and run the motorized pneumatic conveyor upon receiving control signals from a remote control. 2.
