TITLE
OIL LAMP
TECHNICAL FIELD
The invention relates to the field of oil lamps. More
particularly, the invention relates to an oil lamp having a
plurality of candles.
BACKGROUND
Conventionally, producing a flame requires filling a cup
with oil and a wick.
However, the filling requires pouring being a dirty
operation.
WO2005062712 and US4835663 disclose oil lamps
applying gravity considerations.
There is a long felt need to provide a solution to the
above-mentioned and other problems of the prior art.
SUMMARY
An oil lamp, including•
- an oil tank, including a side outlet;
— a horizontal pipe communicating with the side outlet;
and
- vertical pipes extending from the horizontal pipe.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION
The invention will be understood from the following
detailed description of embodiments of the invention, which
are meant to be descriptive and not limiting. For the sake of
brevity, some well-known features are not described in detail.
The reference numbers have been used to point out
elements in the embodiments described and illustrated herein,
in order to facilitate the understanding of the invention. They
are meant to be merely illustrative, and not limiting. Also, the
foregoing embodiments of the invention have been described
and illustrated in conjunction with systems and methods
thereof, which are meant to be merely illustrative, and not
limiting.
Fig. 1 is a front sectional view of an oil lamp according to
one embodiment of the invention.
An oil lamp 10A includes an oil tank 50 for containing oil
26. Oil tank 50 includes an openable lid 44, for pouring oil
into tank 50.
Oil tank 50 further includes a side outlet 54A.
Oil tank 50 further includes a vertically slideable piston
20A being sealed by a seal 22 to wall 52A of oil tank 50, for
allowing the user to manually vertically slide piston 20A, for
adjusting the top level of oil 26 to the level of height 24 of side
outlet 54A.

Oil lamp 10A further includes a horizontal pipe 30,
communicating with tank outlet 54A.
A plurality of vertical pipes 34A, 34B, etc. extend
upwards from top 62A of horizontal pipe 30, and communicate
therewith. Vertical pipes 34A, 34B. etc. are not covered at the
top.
Thus, oil level 24 is equal in tank 50 an in vertical pipes
34A, 34B, etc.
A movable cap 88A may close side outlet 54A, for not
consuming oil contained in tank 50.
Preferably, tank outlet 54A communicates with the
bottom 62B of horizontal pipe 30, or at least below the
narrowing section of vertical pipes 34A, 34B etc., for allowing
emptying pipe 30, for distinguishing the flames.
Horizontal pipe 30 further includes a horizontally
slideable piston 20B being sealed to wall 52B horizontal pipe
, for allowing the user to manually horizontally slide piston
20B, for not allowing oil 26 to enter vertical pipes selected by
the user, such as 34D, 34E, etc.
Vertical pipes 34A, 34B, etc. are intended for inserting
wicks 60 thereinto.
The term "candle" refers herein to a lighting unit,
including oil and a wick.
Thus, oil lamp 10A provides the user with equal oil level,
starting with height 54A, and lowering equally together. Oil

lamp 10A further provides selecting the number candles, being
34A, 34B to be lighted. Oil lamp 10A further provides
adjusting a constant starting level 54A of oil 26, for various
amounts of oil 26 contained in tank 50.
The height of piston 20A may be adjusted by rotating a
bolt 16, being threaded with a female thread of piston 20A.
The displacement of piston 20B may be adjusted by
moving a handle 50, being magnetized with piston 20B.
Fig. 2 is a bottom view of the horizontal pipe of Fig. 1.
A handle 18B, being slideable within a track 48, allows
the user to move piston 20B of Fig. 1.
Fig. 2 is a bottom view of the horizontal pipe of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a side view of the horizontal pipe of Fig. 1.
Horizontal pipe 30 is disposed within a package 12.
A handle 18B, being slideable within a track 48, allows
the user to move piston 20B of Fig. 1.
Fig. 4 is the front sectional view of the oil lamp of Fig. 1,
including motorized features.
A motor 74, being controlled by a controller 76 inputted
by a level sensor 78, may rotate bolt 16, for providing top level
24 to oil 26.
According to one embodiment, controller 76 may rotate
bolt 16, for providing top level 24 to oil 26 prior to lighting

wicks 60, thus wicks 60 extinguish after a period determined
by the physical sizes of the elements.
According to another embodiment, controller 76 may
rotate bolt 16, for providing top level 24 to oil 26 incessantly.
This embodiment is advantaged of maintaining top level 24 of
oil 26 to vertical pipes 34B and others, thus constant lighting
thereto.
Fig. 5 is a bottom view of the track of Fig. 4.
Track 48 explained for Fig. 1 may include a motorized
wheel 64, for advancing a band 66, for sliding magnet 46, for
sliding piston 20B of Fig. 4.
Controller 76 may operate motorized cog 64, for selecting
the numbers of candles to be selected. The numbers of candles
may be selected manually by a user interface 80 (Fig. 4) or
automatically, such as being a function of the date, for serving
Channuka lighting.
Thus, in one aspect, the invention is directed to an oil
lamp (10A), including:
- an oil tank (50), for containing oil (26), and including a
side outlet (54A);
- a horizontal pipe (30) communicating with the side
outlet (54A) of the oil tank (50); and
- a plurality of vertical pipes (34A, 34B) extending
upwards from the top (62) of the horizontal pipe (30) and
communicating therewith,

thereby maintaining an equal oil level (24) to all of the
vertical pipes (34A, 34B).
The oil lamp (10A) may further include•
- a vertically slideable piston (20A) disposed within the oil
tank (50), for constituting a bottom floor for the oil (26),
thereby allowing sliding the vertically slideable piston
(20A) for varying the oil level (24).
The oil lamp (10A) may further include•
- a motor (74), for vertically sliding the vertically slideable
piston (20A);
- a level sensor (78) disposed in the oil tank (50), for
sensing the oil level (24); and
- a controller (76), being inputted by the level sensor (78),
for operating the motor (74) to vary the oil level (24) to a
predetermined level.
The oil lamp (10A) may further include•
- a horizontally slideable piston (20B) disposed within the
horizontal pipe (30), for not allowing the oil (26) to enter
vertical pipes (34D) selected by the user of the vertical
pipes (34A, 34B, 34D).
The oil lamp (10A) may further include:
- a piston (20A, 20B) for controlling the oil (26), by sliding
thereof via a handle (18A, 18B).

The oil lamp (10A) may further include a thread (16), for
sliding the piston (20A) by the handle (18A).
The oil lamp (10A) may further include a magnet (46),
for sliding the piston (20B) by the handle (18B).
Each of the vertical pipes (34A, 34B) may include a
narrowing section (86), for limiting a bottom disposition of a
wick (60) contained in that vertical pipe (34A, 34B),
thereby allowing extinguishing flames of the vertical pipes
(34A, 34B) by the varying of the oil level (24) to below the
narrowing section (86).
The oil lamp (10A) may further include• a movable cap
(88A), for closing the side outlet (54A),
thereby allowing not consuming oil contained in the tank
(50).
According to one embodiment, shown in Fig. 1, the
communication (58) of the horizontal pipe (30) with the side
outlet (54A) of the oil tank (50) is below a selected height of the
vertical pipes (34A, 34B), for allowing removing the oil (26)
from the vertical pipes (34A, 34B) into the oil tank (50).
According to another embodiment, shown in Fig. 4, the
communication of the horizontal pipe (30) with the side outlet
(54A) of the oil tank (50) is above a selected height of the
vertical pipes (34A, 34B), for not consuming oil (26) from the
tank (50) below that height.

A potential advantage of the self-filling menorah is that
all the oil lamps may be simultaneously extinguished which
generally is not possible with candle־based menorahs where
some candles remain lit while others burn themselves out.
That is, in the self-filling menorah, all wicks have the same
length and therefore burn at the same rate.
From a religious aspect, a menorah which may be filled
with exactly 44 cups of oil may be used to represent the
miracle of Hanukkah where a small container of oil lasted for
the eight days of Hanukkah.
Further, there is no need to purchase oil cups, which are
also significantly more expensive than oil, and the handling of
them is dirty. Further, turning off the candles / firecrackers is
done almost at the same time, due to the law of the
communicated vessels principle.
Fig. 6 is a front view of an oil lamp according to another
one embodiment, upon filling its tank.
An oil lamp 10B according to another embodiment,
includes an oil tank 50 for containing oil 26. Oil tank
includes an openable lid 44, for pouring oil into tank 50.
Oil tank 50 includes a bottom outlet 54B, from which
extends a pipe 88A downwards, and from then upwards above
the top of tank 50.
Upon filling tank 50 only, the oil level does not exceed
the top of tank 50.

Fig. 7 is a front view of the oil lamp of Fig. 6 upon a first
operation of its syringe.
A syringe 94 is disposed along pipe 88A, such that
cylinder 90 of syringe 94 includes an inlet 96A and an outlet
96B. Each press on a piston 92 of syringe 94 presses oil further
upwards along pipe 88A above the top of tank 50.
A one-way valve 89A avoids return from pipe 88A to
tank 50.
Fig. 8 is a front view of the oil lamp of Fig. 6 upon a first
press after the state of Fig. 7.
A horizontal channel 102 extends horizontally from the
top 104A of pipe 88A.
Cups 106A, 106B, etc. communicate with channel 1
and extend therebelow.
Each press of piston 92 is sized to dispense one dose
being the content of one cup.
Thus, from the state of Fig. 7 that oil has been lifted to
the top 104A of pipe 88A, a first press on piston 92 fills cup
106A only.
Fig. 9 is a front view of the oil lamp of Fig. 6 upon a
second press after the state of Fig. 8.
A second press on piston 92 attempts to fill cup 106A
twice. Since cup 106A is already full, the surplus oil flows from

cup 106A towards cup 106B, thus both cups 106A and 106B
are filled.
Fig. 10 is a front view of the oil lamp of Fig. 6 according
to another embodiment.
Channel 102 may be closed at the top thereof between
the cups.
Thus, according to another embodiment, the invention is
directed to an oil lamp (10B), including
- an oil tank (50), for containing oil (26), and including an
outlet (54B);
- a first pipe (88A);
- an oil dispenser (94), for receiving the oil (26) from the
tank outlet (54B), for dispensing thereof into the first
pipe (88A); and
- a horizontal channel (102), first end (105A) thereof
extending from a top (104A) of the first pipe (88A);
- at least first (106A) and second (106B) cups, each
communicating with the horizontal channel (102),
extending therebelow, and being disposed one (106B)
after the other (106A) along the horizontal channel
(102),
thereby the oil dispensing into the first pipe (88A)
dispenses the oil to the second cup(106B) only upon filling
the first cup (106A).

The oil lamp (10B) may further include•

- a second pipe (88B), top (10B) thereof extending from a
second end (105B) of the horizontal channel (102), and
bottom thereof extending to an inlet of the oil tank (50).
The first pipe (88A) may include a one-way valve (89A),
for allowing the dispensing thereinto only.

Claims (9)
1. An oil lamp (10A), comprising: - an oil tank (50), for containing oil (26), and comprising a side outlet (54A); - a horizontal pipe (30) communicating with said side outlet (54A) of said oil tank (50); - a plurality of vertical pipes (34A, 34B) extending upwards from said top (62) of said horizontal pipe (30) and communicating therewith; and - a vertically slideable piston (20A) disposed within said oil tank (50), for constituting a bottom floor for said oil (26), thereby maintaining an equal oil level (24) to all of said vertical pipes (34A, 34B) and thereby allowing sliding said vertically slideable piston (20A) for varying said oil level (24).
2. The oil lamp (10A) according to claim 1, further comprising: - a motor (74), for vertically shding said vertically slideable piston (20A); - a level sensor (78) disposed in said oil tank (50), for sensing said oil level (24); and - a controller (76), being inputted by said level sensor (78), for operating said motor (74) to vary said oil level (24) to a predetermined level.
3. The oil lamp (10A) according to claim 1, further comprising: 264421/3 - 16 - - a horizontally slideable piston (20B) disposed within said horizontal pipe (30), for not allowing said oil (26) to enter vertical pipes (34D) selected by the user of said vertical pipes (34A, 34B, 34D).
4. The oil lamp (10A) according to claim I, further comprising a thread (16), for sliding said vertically slideable piston (20A).
5. The oil lamp (10A) according to claim 3, further comprising a magnet (46), for sliding said horizontally slideable piston (20B) by a handle (18B).

The oil lamp (10A) according to claim I, wherein each of said vertical pipes (34A, 34B) comprises a narrowing section (86), for limiting a bottom disposition of a wick (60) contained in that vertical pipe (34A, 34B), thereby allowing extinguishing flames of said vertical pipes (34A, 34B) by said varying of said oil level (24) to below said narrowing section (86).
7. The oil lamp (10A) according to claim I, further comprising a movable cap (88A), for closing said side outlet (54A), thereby allowing not consuming oil contained in said tank (50).
8. The oil lamp (10A) according to claim I, wherein said communication of said horizontal pipe (30) with said side outlet (54A) of said oil tank (50) is below a selected height 264421/3 - 17 - of said vertical pipes (34A, 34B), for allowing removing said oil (26) from said vertical pipes (34A, 34B) into said oil tank (50). 5
9. The oil lamp (10A) according to claim 1, wherein said communication of said horizontal pipe (30) with said side outlet (54A) of said oil tank (50) is above a selected height of said vertical pipes (34A, 34B), for not consuming oil contained in said tank (50).
