Description

PROFILE FOR CONSTRUCTION OF SHELVES, SCAFFOLDINGS OR MODEL STRUCTURES flie invention relates to a profile for constructio of shelves, scaffoldings or model structures, having a longitudinal row of identical through-going holes* By the known profiles of this kind, the holes are used to receive bolts or similar connection elements. When two profiles are to be joined at right angles to each other, an angle lug or like connection member has to be used.
It is the object of the invention to provide a profile of the kind described which can be fastened at right angles to another identical profile without the use of bolts or angle lugs.
This is according to the invention obtained by the fact accurately that each hole is shaped safestasis-fciy^ as the oross section of the prof le itself, and is just wide enough to permit the insertion of another identical profile into the hole.
Hereby, it is made possible to construct, e.g. a shelf, from identical profiles, each of which is passed through a hole in one or more other profiles. Thus, a considerable simplification of such construction, systems is obtained. It can be derived from the said condition, that a profile of this kind cannot have a square or circular section, because in that case the holes would reach to the edges of the profile.
A joining of profiles being all at right angles to each othey, may be obtained, if the longitudinal axis of the hole is perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the pro ile section.
A simple profile with an attractive appearance may be obtained, if the profile section is a rectangle having a side length proportion of approximately 1: 2 · This pro ile may be made of solid wood, or may be a steel tube of rectangular cross section, having possibly a longitudinal slot, whereby the pro If Idle friotion between the profile and the wells of the hole is sufficient, the Joint between the profiles will in many oases be sufficiently rigid. However, e|high friotion between the profile and the walls o the hole will cause a damage to surface inished, for instance painted or lacquered, profiles. In such oases, the profiles should fit loosely in the holes, The joint between such profiles may, however, be made sufficiently rigid, if according to the invention a first profile is passed through a hole in a seoond profile and is so placed in relation to the seoond pro ile, that a hole in the first profile is projecting from both sides of the second profile, whereby a wedg is passed into the two projection end portions of said hole, each wedge being adapted to press partly against the end wall of the hole, and partly against the side ace of the second profile. In this way, the first profile is secured against longitudinal movement in relation to the seoond profile, and in addition, the clamping action of the wedges will prevent the two profiles from rocking in relatio to each other. Only one size of wedge is needed, and thus, the complete construction set will comprise only a number of identical profiles, possibly in standard lengths, and a number of identical wedges. The construction set will there ore be cheap in manufacture, and also easy and economies! in use, because the user will never experience that there is too many members of one kind, and too few members of another kind.
The drawing shows as an example a joint between two identical profiles according to the invention, whereby fig. 1 shows the joint in a lateral view, and ig. 2 is a section taken along the line XI - II in fig. 1.
The drawing shews a vertical pro ile 1 having a solid rectangular oross section* The profile 1 may be made of wood or another suitable material* The lat side of the profile has a number of equidistant rectangular holes 2 having the same profile as the cross section, of the profile itself, for instance 8 x 24mm. The holes 2 are a little wider, so that it will be easy to pass a pro ile, identical to the profile 1, into the holes 2* In the middle one of the holes 2 is inserted a profile 3, which is identical with the profile 1 and is provided with rectangular holes 4 corresponding to th holes 2 in the profile 1* Into each end portion of the hole is passed a wedge 5 pressing partly against the side of the pro ile 1, and partly against the end wall of the hole 4. In this way. a rigid connection between the two pro iles 1 and 3 is obtained.
If the profile has the dimensions 8 x 24mm, the projecting portions of the hole 4 will measure 8 x 8 mmt and each wedge 5 therefore measures 8 x 8 mm at the middle, whereby the vertical side faces of the wedge are slightly converging, while the horizontal side faces are parallel to each other* The structure shown in fig. 1 may be carried further by placing a profile perpendicular to the plane of the drawing, passing the same into one of the holes 4 in the profile 3.
The solid wood profile shown in the drawing may be replaced by a correspondingly shaped profile consisting of a steel tube having a rectangular cross section. Also, the side length proportion may be different from 1 : 3.
HAVING HOW particularly described and ascertained the nature o our said invention and in what manner the sa^ is to -
