Description

g s 0 D D 9 n D 1 D D D D J Q D n Π 1 1 PAHEL ASSEMBLY and Abciuk and i e Date The present invention relates to panel mounting It is particularly useful for mounting such as acoustical decorative the from a A broad object of the invention is to provide a panel mounting assembly which includes parts that may be inexpensively produced and which assembly enables the panels to be mounted in a simple and According to the there is provided a mounting assembly for mounting a plurality of panels each having a longitudinally extending mounting flange along two sides characterized in that the mounting assembly includes a plurality of tudinally extending channel members each open at one side and adapted to receive adjacent of a pair of adjacent panels through its open and a plurality of clips each having a first portion straddling the outside of the channel member and a second portion comprising a pair of spring fingers adapted to releasably receive said adjacent flanges of adjacent In the described the channel member is in and the second portion of each of the clips is disposed within the channel According to a further there is also included a second channel extending at right angles to the channel there being plurality of further clips mounting the mentioned channel member to the second channel Further features and advantages of the invention will be apparent from the description The invention is herein by way example with reference to the accompanying in 1 is a perspective view of a portion of a assembly constructed in accordance with the present 2 is an end elevational taken from the direction of arrow II of the assembly of and is a sectional view along lines of The mounting assembly illustrated in the drawings is used particularly a plurality generally designated from the ceiling of a Such panels may be acoustical decorative or the The illustrated assembly includes two groups of channel members 4 and Only one channel member is shown in the drawings for each for purposes of but a complete assembly includes a plurality of channel members 4 arranged in spaced tionship over the ceiling to be covered by the panels and a plurality of channel 6 also arranged in spaced rela over the ceiling to be The latter channel 6 are disposed at right angles to channel members As can be seen from the both channel members 4 and 6 are in 4 is disposed with the open of facing whereas the open of the of 6 faces upwardly but the latter is not particularly Briefly panels 2 are to channel members 4 by of a plurality of clips and the latter members are supported on members 6 by means of a plurality of clips Members 6 are mounted to the ceiling in any suitable such as by means of hangers schematically illustrated by broken lines 12 in More each of the clips 8 is made of springy such as spring bent into the form of a rectangle having four sides 24 and ends meet at about the of side and then extend in relationship toward the center of the rectangle to form spring fingers 28 which are urged toward each other by the springy nature of the To mount the clips 8 onto channel member the clips are inserted from an end of the channel member so that the sides 22 and 24 of the claps straddle the outside of the channel and the spring fingers 28 enter the channel member through its open as These clips then be moved to different locations along the channel To mount the panels 2 to the channel members the mounting flanges of a pair of adjacent panels are inserted through the open side of the of the channel member and are received by the fingers 28 of the clips mounting flanges of the panels 2 include longitudinally extending beads and the spring fingers of the clips 8 also include tudinally extending recesses adapted to engage the beads Clips which are used for 4 to each include a portion which straddles and hooked ends adapted to hook under the sides of member There are a pair of clips 10 at each mounting location of member the clips being disposed on opposite sides of the member as can be seen from Channel members 6 are supported from the ceiling by means of hangers as indicated The manner of mounting the panels 2 by means of the assembly illustrated be apparent from the foregoing a plurality of the members 6 are mounted to the ceiling by hangers 12 so as to tend in parallel spaced relationship across the surface of the ceiling to be the channel members 4 are mounted in parallel spaced relationship to each but at right angles to channel members are mounted by the use of clips and at the of their they carry the clips 8 for mounting the panels The latter panels are mounted by inserting their flanges through the open side of the of channel members 4 so that the beads cf a pair of adjacent panels the recesses of the spring fingers 28 of clips The spring fingers thus but hold the panels in mounted The parts of the mounting assembly are and inexpensive to produce and enable the panels to be mounted in a very quick and efficient because the flanges of the panels 2 are received within the open side of the channel members the panels may be mounted substantially flush with the bottom edges of the channel thus saving Many changes will be For the channel members 4 may be mounted to th surface to be clips of other shapes covered than the assembly may be used for mounting panels rather than to the Additional modifica variations and applications of the invention will be insufficientOCRQuality
