Abstract

A switchboard (15) is produced in a method (1) by assembling an initial frame (29) in a simple manner using vertical and horizontal frame members and connected over a base plate (32). Compartment side plates (34) and base plates 37 define compartments within which pre-assembled modules (40) are mounted in a simple manner. Components on the modules (40) are connected to a main bus bar system (19) by feeder bus bars (22) which extend through apertures (36) in the side plates (34). These apertures are covered by barriers of a plastics material which is highly insulative and has very high mechanical strength. The feeder bus bars (22) extend in a tight fit through apertures within the barrier. At intervals along the main bus bar system (19), barriers (50) of similar material are constructed using two interconnecting halves having interluding separators (53). Assembly of the swithboard (15) is simple as it is modular and interconnections are simple and there is very comprehensive safety by use of the various barriers, the barriers being very simple to mount.
