Abstract

An imaging apparatus with a receiver (2) for receiving asynchronous data from a processor (3), a decoder (4) for decoding received data from the receiver (2), an image generator (5) for generating an image and a transmitter (6) for returning a generated image or an assembly control list to the processor (2) or an assembler. The image generator (5) has a memory hold register (120), a data hold register (121), a parallel full adder (122), an adder control (123) for receiving information from the processor (2) and producing an interim image and storing the image in an interim graphics array (127). The image generator (5) also has a two dimensional generator (129) and a three dimensional generator (130) for selecting portions of the interim image and storing them in an output graphics array (131) using a combined output controller (132). The invention is particularly useful where image manipulation controls final production equipment.
