Description

ΪΕ 922713 : ί.Α ΕΝ TO PUB LID INSPECTION 1.5:1 ' REF. NO. S922713. SECTION 28 AND RULE 23 ----------------------------- SPECIFICATION , No /7/3 OF βθ!*Λ It/00 .............- — IIBi W—---- y—· RE: WEEDSPONGER. , 3 03 O j/o2 i ^ ______ The Weedsponger is a Herbicide Applicator designed to treat weejis when there is sufficient grass clearance. At this stage weeds £ only are caught by the Sponge/Foam Bearing Boom, as against blanket treatment using a Sprayer. Small amounts of Chemical and Water are required using this system. The storage tanks are carried on the main frame at approximately Four and a Half Feet ^ over the Boom as gravity flow is used to distribute the Chemical. to There are Three storage tanks. The Three storage tanks as against one larger tank allows smaller amounts of wash (Chemical Water) to be made up at a time, and/or different Chemical Bearing wash being carried at the same time.
Underneath the storage tank is a smaller tank which controls and i£- evens out the flow whether storage tanks are full or almost depleted. This tank is regulated by the use of a float.
The boom is Twelve Feet wide in three foldable Sections. The boom itself is made from Channel Iron. The floor of the Channel Iron is crossed at right angles at every 4 - 5" with Half inch 2.0 high partitions to stop Chemical from running from side to side.
In the floor of the Channel between each partition are 4 Half inch holes to allow the chemical down onto the Sponge/Foam. The feedpipe runs the length of the boom. Each of the 3 Sections has Ten valves, coupled to a control-bar which can be regulated as to crop requires. Behind the boom is carried the Combs, in three foldable sections. The combs have teeth at One 1" intervals and brush the crop after treatment. This is to spread the chemical more thoroughly through the crop. The machine when not in use stands on four legs. Because of the height of the machine (Six Feet Three Inches) the legs are mounted at a 45 degree angle. This gives good stability. The legs when not in use slide up into the body of the main frame. On each end of the boom there is a wheel. This raises the Sections of the boom, when uneven ground is encountered.
The sponge/foam is encased in 3" mesh. This is to keep the sponge/foam in its original shape.
