Description

Title A safety device used to stun potentially dangerous animals in the case of the animal attacking a person.
Description Field of Invention This product is worn by the animal on its head, in the form of a head collar (harness) with an Electric Control Unit (ECU) attached on the underside of the harness. The animal handler carries a traiismitter. In the event of‘ the animal attacking the handler, the button on the transmitter is pressed, lriggerilig the ECU on the harness to release an electric current through the animal's brain. This will temporarily make the animal unconscious, giving the handler a chance to get to safety.
Background to Invention The original idea came about when I was attacked by a bull in a. shed. Because I was in a shed, I escaped. Had this happened in an open field, I probably wouid not have, because of the distance and time needed to get to safety. This product will make an animal unconscious so the handler can get to a safe place away from the animal. In the case of bulls, rings and chains in their noses are the only safety products marketed to date for when the bull is outdoors.
Statement of Invention The invention is to provide a safety mechanism for people who work with potentially dangerous large animals. In the event the animal attempts to attack the handler, the handler has the means to temporarily lender the animal unconscious, enabling the handler to get to safety.
The invention has 2 parts: (a) The part for the animal to wear, which is a head collar (harness) with the ECU attached underneath, and two probes (electrodes) built into the collar. (b) The transmitter, that the handler carries somewhere easy to access, e.g. strapped to his arm like a wristwatch, around his neck or on his belt. 2.004 2.005 2.0052 2.0053 2,005.4 886492 Description of Design The head collar (harness) will be made from tough hard—wea1'ing polyester woven or leather with heavy duty stainless steel buckles for adjustment to suit different sizes and shapes of animals. The ECU casing will be made from a composite material (fibre reinforced plastic). It witl be tough, shockproof and waterproof. The harness strap will pass through the ECU casing as a means of attaching it to the harness. Inside, the ECU wili be the power source (a battery) which will power a high voltage pulse generator.
Two wires will run from the high voltage pulse generator to two probes built. into the harness. These probes are in contact with the animal's head in the correct place for the electric current to go through the animals brain. The transmitter will have a battery and 2: Printed Circuit Board (PCB) inside. The case will be made frorn composite material and will be waterproof.

(3D view)This is a 3D drawing of the harness (1), the ECU (2) and the wires (10) running fi'om ECU (2) inside the harness (1). The harness will be 2 layers sewn together to protect wires (10) and add strength to the harness (1). The wires (10) are connected to the left and right probe (electrode) (l2,l3) which wiii be in oontact with the animals‘ head. On a bull, the contact will be between the eyes and ears.

The probe (13) on the right hand side of the head (17) will be placed between the eye (15) and the car (16). The probe (12) on the opposite side sits in the same position. The buckles (8, 1 1) show how adjustment can be made to suit the size of the bull.
