Abstract

A hurley boss cover (1) is of a latex rubber material, in the form of an envelope for covering the ground-contacting part of a hurley. It comprises sheets of rubber (2,3) joined at a seam (4) to present a mouth (5) for receiving the hurley boss. The overall configuration is crescent-shaped. The thickness of the sleeve material is sufficient to protect both the hurley and any surface that it contacts, in addition to reducing risk of injury. Advantageously, the hurley may be used outdoors in a conventional manner by simply removing the cover. This avoids the need to provide special flexible hurleys for indoor use, and also provides a more realistic indoor training experience. <Figure 1>

Description

“Improvements In And Relating To Hurleys And The Like” Introduction The invention relates to hurleys, hockey sticks and the like.
A problem with use of a hurley indoors is that it can be easily damaged by contact with the ground, and indeed play may be dangerous if there is risk of contact with players.
The invention addresses this problem.
Summary of the Invention According to the invention, there is provided a cover for a sports stick such as a hurley, the cover 15 being configured to fit to a ground-contacting part of the stick during use of the stick.
In one embodiment, the cover is of a resilient material.
In another embodiment, the cover material has a high-friction surface to aid it in remaining in 20 place during use.
In a further embodiment, the cover has a crescent configuration with a generally convex sealed edge and a generally concave mouth.
Detailed Description of the Invention The invention will he more clearly understood from the following description of some embodiments thereof, given by way of example only with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: 30 Fig. 1 is an underneath perspective view of a hurley cover of the invention; Fig. 2 is a top perspective view of the cover; and -2S86296 Fig. 3 is a perspective view showing the cover in use.
Referring to the drawings a hurley boss cover 1 is of a latex rubber material, in the form of an envelope for covering the ground-contacting part of a hurley. The cover 1 comprises sheets of rubber 2 and 3 joined at a seam 4to present a mouth 5 for receiving the hurley boss. The overall configuration is crescent-shaped. The cover material has a high-friction surface to aid it in remaining in place during use, and it has a crescent configuration with a generally convex sealed edge 4 and a generally concave mouth 3.
The cover can in one embodiment be provided in any of three different sizes, small, medium, and large. It can be stretched so that it is a stretch fit over the boss and so does not slop when there is ground contact. The thickness of the material 2 and 3 is sufficient to protect both the hurley and any surface that it contacts, in addition to reducing risk of injury. The cover 1 may be provided in any desired colour and possibly with instructions or other markings printed on in.
Advantageously, the invention allows the hurley to subsequently be used outdoors in a conventional manner by simply removing the cover 1. This avoids the need to provide special flexible hurleys for indoor use, and also provides a more realistic indoor training experience.
The invention is not limited to the embodiments described but may be varied in construction and detail. For example, it could be applied to other sports such as hockey or ice hockey for example.
