Description

Field of invention ' The present invention relatesto ladders for working outdoors or indoors. In particular the invention relates to a new type of ladder platform which ensures that the ladder is erected to correct working angles.
Background - The angle recommended by the Health and Safety Authority for the safe use of a ladder is 75° - (H &S A Regulations 2007-Working at Height).
However, people from all walks of life use ladders, mostly without training or experience, and many injuries result from the incorrect setting up of and use of ladders.
- This invention seeks to eliminate some of the risks involved in climbing and working on ladders.
There are a number of ladder platforms available, but none provide the user with a built- in levelling system to indicate the correct angles at which a ladder should be used.
The platform of the present invention has a quick-release catch which allows for easy repositioning of the platform as needs dictate, thus enabling the user to work from any rung of the ladder.
Accordingly, there exists a need for a ladder safety platform which, by its angle indicator and integrated spirit-level bubbles, will enable the user to easily erect the ladder at the proper angles. 886176 Statement of Invention Accordingly, there is provided a ladder safety platform comprising: A base plate with a 105° angled upstand, an angle indicator for 75° on the left hand side of the base plate, an integrated spirit—level bubble also on the left hand side, an integrated spirit—level bubble on the front of the base plate; and an adjustable top plate, having a quick-release handle.
The advantage of the invention is that the levelling system allows the user to easily erect the ladder at the correct climbing angles. Another advantage is that the platform can be adjusted to fit ladders with rungs centred from 250"‘"‘ to 300"“, and rung widths from ”“ to 50”"“' Additionally, once the safety platform has initially been affixed to the ladder being used, the quick-release catch allows the user to remove the safety platform from one position and reposition it at a different height using only one hand.
Brief Description of Drawings There are two drawings, Fig.1 and Fig2. Both are isometric drawings.
No.1 shows the base plate.
No.2 shows the top plate which is adjustable and contains the quick-release catch.
Detailed Description of the Drawings Referring to Fig. 1: ‘’ A '1 is the angle indicator which pivots up to 75°‘ is a spirit level which should read level when the angle indicator 1 is parallel with the ladder style. is the spirit level which uprightness when the ladder is in vertical plane, by which is meant not leaning to right or left at the top. is the base plate of the platform. It rests on a rung of the ladder. It has an upstand of 105°, and is of one piece. two slots which allow top adjusting plate movement to suit different rung spacings. 6 securing bolts on either side holding top adjusting plate in correct place. 7 top adjusting plate which fits underneath the rung immediately above base plate 4. 8 handle and catch combined which secures the platform. stop or check to prevent back—movement on platform when weight is applied.
Referring to Fig. 2: is bottom view of catch and handle. Catch is adjustable to suit rung widths from 25""“ to 50""“. It applies pressure on the back of the rung thus preventing movement.

Claims
1. A ladder safety platform comprising: a base plate (4) formed in one piece which rests on the chosen rung of the ladder, having an upstand of 105°; 5 a top adjusting plate (7) which fits underneath the rung immediately above the base plate (4); an angle indicator (1) attached to the base plate (4) to allow for correct angular positioning of the ladder; a first spirit level (2) incorporated into the base plate (4) which will read level 10 when the angle indicator (1) is parallel with the ladder; a second spirit level (3) incorporated into the base plate (4) which will read level when the ladder is not leaning to a left or right position; adjustable slots (5) and securing bolt (6) used to allow adjustment of the top adjustment plate (7) for different rung spacing widths; 15 a handle and catch component (8) used to further secure the platform by applying pressure to the back ofthe rung thus preventing movement, the catch component also allowing easy repositioning of the platform as needs dictate; a stop component (9) used to prevent back movement on the platform when weight is applied. 20
2. A ladder safety platform as described herein with reference to the accompanying drawings. 25
