Abstract

ABSTRACT A USB ﬂash device.with a built—in label holder or pocket (forming part of the exterior plastic or rubber molding of the ﬂash drive with "solid sides to the holder/pocket and a transparent front) with a space for a card label (folded once) to be placed. This label is clearly visible while inside the label holderl [pocket and can be marked with the main contents of the ﬂash drive, the name of the drive's owner, etc. The label can also be unfolded to create a larger piece of card, allowing space for further contents/description to be recorded. The advantages of the invention are that the labelling allows for easy identiﬁcation of USB ﬂash drives; which one is which and also what data each one contains. It removes some of the potential for confusion in the home or office where there may be multiple USB ﬂash drives, owned by different people with different contents. It also allows a person to identify the contents of a USB ﬂash drive where they do not have immediate access to a PC or laptop.

Description

Title Label Pocket USB ﬂash drive Field of the invention The present invention relates to computer and I.T. equipment. In particular the invention relates to a new type of USB ﬂash drive.

Baelgggound to the invention A USB ﬂash drive consists of ﬂash memory data storage device integrated with a USB (Universal Serial Bus) 1.1 or 2.0 interface. USB ﬂash drives are typically removable and rewritable, much smaller than a ﬂoppy disk, and most weigh less than 30 g (1 oz). USB ﬂash drives are often used for much the same purpose as ﬂoppy disks were, i.e. the storage of data.

Unlike ﬂoppy disks, USB ﬂash drives do not have exterior labels. This makes it difficult to identify one ﬂash drive from the other or to know what the contents of the ﬂash drive are until it is inserted into a PC or laptop.

Statement of invention Accordingly, there is provided a USB ﬂash drive with a built-in label holder or pocket (forming part of the front of the exterior plastic or rubber molding of the ﬂash drive with solid sides to the holder/pocket and a transparent front) with a space for a card label (folded once) to be placed.

This label is clearly visible while inside the label holder/pocket and can be marked with the main contents of the ﬂash drive, the name of the drive’s owner, etc. The label can also be unfolded to create a larger piece of card, allowing space for further contents/description to be recorded.

The advantages of the invention are that the labeling allows for easy identiﬁcation of USB ﬂash drives: which one is which and also what data each one contains. It removes some of the potential for confusion in the home or office where there may be multiple USB ﬂash drives, owned by different people with different contents. It also allows a person to identify the contents of a USB ﬂash drive where they do not have immediate access to a PC or laptop.

Detailed descrigtion Referring now to the drawings and initially to Figures la and lb, there is illustrated a USB ﬂash drive comprising a ﬂash drive (1) in a plastic/rubber casing (2) with a built-in plastic/rubber labelholder on one side of the device (3), containing one card label (4).

Claims

1.A USB ﬂash drive, comprising of a ﬂash drive with a built-in label holder or pocket (forming part of the front of the exterior plastic/rubber molding of the ﬂash drive with solid sides to the holder/pocket and a transparent front); with a space for a card label (folded once) to be placed. A USB ﬂash drive, as claimed in claim 1, wherein: A label can be placed in a built-in plastic/rubber label-holder/pocket on the front of the ﬂash drive so that it is clearly visible while inside it; this label can be marked with the main contents of the ﬂash drive, the name of the drive’s owner, etc; the label can also be unfolded to create a larger piece of card, allowing space for further contents/description to be recorded.
