Description
This invention relates to paving slabs and other smooth * faced concrete products. Present decorative concrete products rely primarily on shape and surface texture for variety. When colour is used it mainly consist of plain colours or ristricted to vague or rudimentery variations.
According to the invention there is provided a paving slab or similar, smooth faced concrete product incorpor -ating a variety of multi-colour designs and effects though ·and- on: the surface*
In one particular aspect of the invention various desired patterns can be achived on the surface by sprinkling the design colour or colours on the bottom of the mould into which the white or predominent coloured cement mix is poured. On contact, the water in the cement mix dilutes the dry colour particals which now spread locally with varying degrees o?f density while the spreading action of the concrete mix now creates a uniform pattern. Different patterns can now be created depending on how the cement mix is poured and spread, fur instance with the mix poured in at the centre and flowing evenly towards the sides an explosive pattern is achived?, and where the mix is poured at the sides and flows towards the centre an implosive pattern is achived, if the mix is laid evenly and then rotated in the mould a circular pattern will be formed equally if the mix is laid evenly the duluted colour particals will remain relatively static to create a fixed pattern. On drying out a chemical reaction now occurs between the cement in the mix and the colour dye particals which now hold fast on the surface of the finished product.
In another embodiment the white or dominant coloured nix is shot through with a contrasting colour or colours and slightly mixed partial blending will occur to create various random patterns within the mix while imparting a marble like translucent effect to the finished product.
The invention will be more clearly understood from the following discription given by way of example, with reference to the drawings, in which:Fig. I is a cutaway elivation view of the' concrete mix being poured at the centre of the mould and spreading out towards the edge and creating an explosive pattern by the colour particals at the bottom of the mould as it does so.
Fog. 2 is a similar view to that of Fig, I showing the mix now being similtaniously being poured in at the edg^s of the mould and flowing towards the centre to impart an implosive pattern by the colour particals.
rig, 3 is a plan view of the mix laid evenly in the mould and then rotated to create a circular pattern by the colour particals on the bottom of the mould.
Fig. 4 is a cutaway elivation view of the mix shotthrough with contrasting colours and poured into the mould to produce various random patterns and effects such as marble due to the partial blending with the cement mix and imparting a translucence aspect on the surface of the product.
referring to the drawings there is illustrated a cement mix indicated generally by the numeral I. being poured into the centre of the mould 2 and flowing towards the outer edge and engaging the colour particles 3 to create an outward or explosive pattern to be formed on the surface of this concrete slab or panel.
Referring to Fig 2 there is illustrated a similar view to that of Fig. I showing the mix I being poured simultaneously into the outeredges of the mould 2 and flowing towards the centre while engaging the colour particals 3 · to create an inward or implosive pattern to be formed on the concrete slab or panel.
Referring to Fig. 3 is a plan view of the mix I laid evenly in the mould 2 and then rotated to create a circular pattern by the engaged colour particles 3 at the bottom of the mould 2o • t 'I
For a static pattern the procedure is the same as thet in Fig, 3 exept there is no rotation of the mix I (not shown) and the colour particles 3 are engaged and diluted where they sit on the bottom of the mould 2 by the mix i laid evenly upon them.
Mg. 4 is a cutaway elivation view of the shot-through cement mix I’having been poured into the mould 2 to create various random.patterns by the shot-through colours in the white or the contrasting, dominating coloured mix I to produce a translucent--marble effect.
The invention is not limited to the embodiments here described which may be varied method and design.
Claims (5)
1. I· A pre-cast slab, and smooth faced concrete products, incorporating a variety of multi-coloured design's and effects.
2. A concrete slab is claimed wherin the dry design colour or colours are first sprinkled in the mduld prior to filling with the white or predominent coloured cement mix.
3. A concrete slab is claimed wherin the water in the cement mix diLutes the dry colour parti cals which', spread locally on contact with varying degrees of density. ¢. A concrete slab is claimed wherin different patterns can be creared by the method in which the cement mix is poured or laid into the mould.
4. With the mix poured at the centre and flow outwards to create an explosive pattern, while the mix potired in at the edge will flow towards the centre to produce an implosive pattern, while with the mix laid evenly a fixed pattern is formed and the mix rotated to produce a circular pattern where they are absorbed by the chemical action in the cement mix and held fast on the surface when th® slab hardens.
5. A concrete slab is claimed wherin the white or dominent coloured mix is shot-through with a contrasting colour or colours and slightly mixed for partial blending to create various random patterns within the cement mix to impart a marble effect in the finished product. Dated this 15th, day
