Abstract
The punch back punch bag is a variation of a normal punch bag except it has a horizontal arm extending from the internal spine of the bag. The idea behind this bag is when it is punched the movement of the bag away from you causes the arm to swing towards the person who has punched it. This will give those using the bag a larger range of exercises than they would get from a normal punch bag. It will look similar to a normal punch bag except it will have a removable arm that attaches and detaches approximately one third from the top. <Figure 1>
Description
Punch bag with rotating arm
Field of invention
The present invention relates to a punch bag used by boxers as a training aid. In particular this invention relates to a new type of punch bag.
Background of invention
A punch bag is a stuffed or inflated leather bag that is usually suspended so that it can be punched or kicked for practice or exercise. They are used by boxers, kick boxers and in the martial arts as a training aid. It is found in gyms, fitness centers, boxing clubs and can be used in the home. It can be attached to the ceiling, or on the wall by a bracket and it can be free standing with the aid of a stand. The person training with the punch bag punches or kicks it and it swings back and forth. The purpose of the punch bag is to improve the skills and fitness of the user.
Limitations with the standard punch bag are that those training with the bag can become bored easily as it is repetitive. The way that trainers get around this problem is to have one person holding the bag or pushing the bag in different directions in order to stimulate the person training. This means it can take two people to operate the bag which is not time or cost effective. This can be a particular disadvantage for someone training alone in a club or at home.
Summary of invention
According to the invention, there is provided as set out in the claims, a punch bag comprising of a rotating horizontal padded arm which is approximately three quarters up from the bottom of the bag. The padded arm is approximately 60cm long. The arm is fixed on a bearing on in the centre spine of the bag and when it is pushed or punched the arm rotates and imitates a person throwing a punch.
The advantage of this punch bag is as follows
It can be used alone, It can be used by both beginners and professionals, It enhances the skill of those using it, it can easily fit into the place of a traditional bag, as the arm is detachable it can be used as a normal punch bag and it can be used by children or adults. The main advantage of this bag is that is simulates a real boxing experience with a partner. As this bag has a rotating arm it gives those who are using it a target area of a body, arm and head. Using this bag improves fitness and technique as when the bag is hit, momentum causes the arm to swing in the direction of the person training and it mimics an opponent. As the arm is padded it is safe and will not injure those using it. As the arm rotates, the person training ducks underneath it, thus mimicking an opponent throwing a cross.
The bag is height adjustable by a chain on the top as per a normal bag thus making it fit the height of those training with it. The height adjustable bag means the rotating arm will be at the same level of those who are using it and so making it very like an opponent. The hanging bag will be at the same head height as those training with it. This makes it a very realistic training aid as the swinging arm will be the similar height of an opponent. As it is adjustable it can be used by people of different heights.

Detailed description of the drawings
Figure 1
Referring now to the drawing now initially figure 1. There is illustrated a punching bag with arm attached. At the top is the supporting chain, Nr 1, which is attached to the spine Nr 2, of the bag at one single point. This chain can be easily shortened or lengthened with the help of a hook or shackle. The spine runs the length of the body of the bag and at the bottom of the spine is the supporting plate Nr 3.
Next is the head of the bag Nr 4, which it situated above the rotating arm Nr 5. Fixed to the centre spine is the rotating arm which is fixed by a bracket Nr 6, with a bearing inside. The bearing allows the arm to spin 360 degrees in both directions. The arm can be constructed of soft durable foam in the shape of a boxing glove. The arm can be easily screwed on and off if required. The next piece is the body of the bag Nr 7 which is similar to a normal punch bag. Nr 8 a, b, c and d show the supporting chamfered rubber plates which hold each section of the bag together.
Figure 2
Referring now to the drawing now initially figure 2. Figure 2 highlights the threaded spine Nr 1 which runs through the spinning device. Above and below the spinning device are two threaded chamfered nuts Nr 2. These nuts hold the bearing in place and which allows the arm to rotate.
Figure 3
Referring now to the drawing initially figure 3. Here we have the rotating device Nr 1 a. A bearing, Nr lal sits inside the bracket Nr la2, the bracket is also threads at the end. Figure lb is the attaching arm. The arm consists of a threaded bar Nr Ibl which is covered in foam Nr 1 b2.
Figure 4
Referring now to the drawing initially figure 4. What we are highlighting in this drawing is the doughnut piece Nrl which covers the gap when the arm is removed. It is situated between the head Nr 2, and the body Nr 3 of the bag.
Figure 5
Referring now to the drawing initially figure 5. This is the removable doughnut piece which is made of foam and is removable. This piece allows the punch bag to be used as a normal bag when the arm is removed. The gap in the middle of the doughnut allows it to fit around the bracket and spine of the bag. Nr la shows a cross sectional view of the doughnut. Nr lb shows the actually doughnut. Nr lb, 1 shows the Velcro fastener which closes the doughnut securely. Nr lb, 2 shows the gap in the doughnut where the threaded piece of the bracket fits. Nr lb. 3 is a hinge made from material.
