Abstract

A changing bag for use during aircraft travel which functions as an over-the-shoulder bag when fully zipped up. It unzips to slide over an aircraft tray-top table and zip-close pockets hang over either side. When flipped to the reverse side, the bag functions as a changing mat with easy access pockets designed for use in the limited space of an aircraft toilet/changing facility. <Figure 3>

A baby changing bag with specific design for air travel Description Field of invention The present invention relates to changing & nappy bags for use with babies or toddlers. In particular, the invention relates to a new type of changing bag which is specifically designed for air travel.

Background A changing bag for use with a baby or toddler is a rugged plastic, nylon or leather bag that can be used to carry bottles and bottle making equipment, nappies, baby wipes, snacks, toys, changes of clothes and personal items relating to the parent such as keys, wallet and mobile telephone. A changing bag may or may not contain a portable wipe-clean changing mat. A changing bag will have several different compartments which may or may not be waterproof and may or may not be specifically shaped to carry bottles or other equipment.

There is currently no changing bag in existence which is specifically designed for air travel, i.e. that makes use of the cramped space at an airline seat and can also function as a changing mat for use in an airline toilet or airport changing area. Parents travelling on an airplane with babies or small children may require a single changing bag that can fulfil all functions and can be easily manipulated, opened and closed with one hand.

Statement of invention Accordingly, the invention is an over the shoulder changing bag designed for travel with a small baby or toddler. It has zip close compartments for nappies, wipes, toys and snacks as well as a pocket for passport and boarding pass.

The bag opens in the centre to function in two modes: • While the user is seated on the aircraft, the bag slips over the tray top table and pockets hang down on either side (much like saddle bags on a bike). When in this mode, the top surface functions as both a stand for a tablet (e.g. iPad) and also a seat for smaller babies.

• When the bag is reversed, the bag becomes a changing mat with convenient pockets specifically designed for use in aircraft toilets in limited space. In this mode, the bag facilitates access to the nappy and wipe pockets and has a wipe-clean surface The advantages of the invention are that a parent travelling on an aircraft with a baby or small child can have a single bag that fulfils all functions and conveniences required for a flight in one piece of hand luggage. The invention can be used at the airline seat as an entertainment centre with easily accessible pockets and can also function as a changing mat which can be carried to an airline toilet or airport changing area with one hand while carrying the baby / small child in the other. In one embodiment the invention provides an accessible changing bag and changing mat that makes it easier for one parent to travel alone with a baby or small child.

Brief description of the drawings Figure 1 shows the invention when fully closed and in use as a shoulder bag.

Figure 2 shows the invention when zipped open at the centre and slipped over the tray-top table at an airline seat.

Figure 3 shows the invention when the reverse side is in use as a changing mat which is specifically designed for use in the cramped space of an airline toilet.

Detailed description Referring to the three drawings, Figure 1 shows a changing bag which is two collections of pockets zipped up at the centre. It has a long strap for transport over the shoulder and two smaller handles for carrying. The outside of the bag has an accessible milk or water bottle pocket.

Figure 2 shows the invention when zipped open. There is a sewn space which is open-ended and this can be used to slip the invention over the tray-top table supplied at every aircraft seat. There are fabric hooks for alternative hanging of the product over a chair or table. Fabric pockets hang down on either side which can be zipped on both sides to ensure the safety of contents when the bag is turned upside down.

Figure 3 shows the reverse side of the invention. It is now a comprehensive, wipe-clean changing mat which fits into the space of an aircraft toilet changing table. A baby or small child can be placed on the invention on this side for changing nappies. Pockets containing spare nappies, wipes and other equipment are also accessible on this side.

Claims (1)

1. A baby changing bag for primary use in airline travel comprising: two pocket compartments that fasten together at the centre; a fabric space to secure the invention onto a tray-top table at an aircraft seat and said pocket 5 compartments hang down on either side; double-sided pockets and compartments so that the invention can be reversed and carried upside down; a surface for use as a baby changing mat; and an easy-access pocket for transporting passport, boarding pass and other documents.
