Abstract

The invention relates to a garden waste carrier for transporting grass clippings and the like from a lawn to a disposal area. The carrier comprises a sheet (1) of a flexible sheeting material, e.g. a woven synthetic plastics material. The sheet may be of polygonal shape, e.g. square-shaped, or may be circular or ovidal. A plurality of loops (2) are stitched, or otherwise attached, to the periphery of the sheet (1) e.g. to the corners to form handles (3). When in use, the sheet (1) is laid on the ground and grass clippings, hedge clippings, or the like, are emptied onto the sheet. When full, the sheet (1) may be lifted by the handles (3) to form a sack (5). Preferably, the handles (3) are long so that the sack (5) can be carried on the back of the user, for disposal. <Figure 1>

Description

Title Field of the Invention 070016 The invention relates to a garden waste carrier for transporting grass clippings, hedge clippings, leaves, and the like from a lawn, or other garden area, for disposal.
IO Background to the Invention Many lawnmowers are fitted with a grass catcher, usually comprising a box or bag attached to the rear, or to the side, of the mower into which the cut grass is blown. When the grass catcher is full, it is detached by the operator and carried away for emptying, e.g. in a compost bin or other disposal area. However, this may involve the operator making several trips to the disposal area during the cutting of the lawn, which is time consuming and laborious.
Object of the Invention It is an object of the invention to provide carrier means which may be located on the lawn and onto which the grass cuttings may be emptied from the grass catcher, and which, when cutting is finished, may be transported by the operator to the disposal area in a single operation.
Summary of the Invention The invention provides a garden waste carrier comprising a sheet of a flexible sheeting material and a plurality of loops attached, at spaced intervals, to the periphery of the sheet to form handles, whereby, in use, in one configuration the sheet may be laid flat on the ground to receive a quantity of garden waste, and in a second configuration the sheet may be lifted by the handles to form a sack in which the garden waste is transported for disposal. ι 0700 16 In one embodiment the sheet is of rectangular shape, e.g. square, and a loop is attached e.g. to each of the four comers of the sheet, to form the handles.
Alternatively, the sheet may be polygonal, e.g. triangular, pentagonal, or the like, and the loops are attached at spaced intervals to the periphery of the sheet, preferably at the corners.
In another embodiment, the sheet may be circular or of ovidal shape and the loops are attached, at spaced intervals, to the periphery of the sheet to form the handles.
Suitably, the sheeting is a synthetic woven material e.g. woven polyethylene.
Preferably the handles are long so that the sack can be carried on the back of the user for transport to the disposal area.
Brief Description of the Drawings An embodiment of the invention is hereinafter described with reference to the accompanying drawings wherein: Figure 1 is a plan view of a garden waste carrier in accordance with one embodiment of the invention, showing the sheet in a flat configuration.
Figure 2 is a side view of the sheet in a second configuration.
Detailed Description of the Drawings One embodiment of a garden waste carrier is shown in Figures 1 and 2 of the drawings. The carrier comprises a sheet (1) of a flexible material, which preferably is a woven material, such as woven polyethylene. Preferably, the sheeting is lightweight, and is water permeable, so that rain water will not collect on the sheet (1) when it is laid 070016 on the ground. In the embodiment shown the sheet is square, and typically may measure about 1.5 metres by 1.5 metres.
A loop (2) is attached to each corner portion of the sheet to form a handle (3).
The loops may also be made from a woven polyethylene and the ends (4) of lengths forming the loops are preferably stitched or otherwise securely attached adjacent to each corner portion of the sheet. As shown in Figure 1, the loops may be made from a length of polyethylene or other suitable material. The free end portions (6) of the loops are each stitched To the sheet (1), substantially parallel to the side edge of the sheet. There is an end portion (6) of each loop stitched to opposite surfaces of the sheet (1), such that the stitching can extend through the two loop ends (6) to strengthen the attachment. Preferably, the loops are made from a soft material so that they are not hard on the hands, when carrying.
In use, the sheet (1) is laid flat on the ground, as shown in Figure 1, and grass cuttings, or other garden waste cuttings, can be emptied from the catcher of the lawnmower machine onto the sheet. When a sufficient quantity of grass cuttings is deposited on the sheet, the sheet may be lifted by means of the handles (3) into the form of a sack (5), as shown in Figure 2.
One of the handles (3) may be threaded through the other loops (2)to form a carrying strap, such that the sack can be slung over the back of the user and carried to a disposal area where the sack is emptied.
The words “comprises/comprising” and the words “having/including” when used herein with reference to the present invention are used to specify the presence of stated features, integers, steps or components but does not preclude the presence or addition of one or more other features, integers, steps, components or groups thereof.

Claims (5)

Claims
1. A garden waste carrier comprising a sheet (1) of a flexible sheeting material and a plurality of loops (
2. ) attached, at spaced intervals, to the periphery of the sheet 5 (1) to form handles (3), whereby, in use, in one configuration the sheet (1) may be laid flat on the ground to receive a quantity of garden waste, and in a second configuration the sheet (1) may be lifted by the handles (3) to form a sack (5) in which the garden waste is transported for disposal. 10 2 A carrier as claimed in claim 1, wherein the sheet (1) is of a square shape and a loop (2) is attached adjacent each corner to form a handle (3).
3. A carrier as claimed in claim 1, wherein the sheet (1) is of a polygonal, circular or ovidal shape.
4. A carrier as claimed in any one of the preceding claims, wherein the sheet (1) is made from a flexible material such as a woven polyethylene, which optionally is water permeable. 20
5. A garden waste carrier substantially as herein before described with reference to, and as illustrated in, the accompanying drawings.
