Abstract

The upper layer of a peat moor containing peat and woody material is fed into a rotary screen drum 2 and subjected to water jet pressure from one or more nozzles 3. Fine material comprising peat drops through slots 2' into tank 7 and coarse woody material is discharged into crusher 22. Separation of light peaty material from heavier particles is effected in tank 7, the former material being passed to a vibratory screen 10. The material crushed in crusher 22 is passed via tank 23, trap 25, and sedimentation tank 29 to a screw dewaterer 31, which also accepts reject material from the vibratory screen 10. Peaty material passing through the latter is passed via vortex cleaner 14 to screen 18 for separation of peat fibres from colloidal peat woody material discharged from screw dewaterer 31 is fed via disc refiner 34 to tank 19 to be admixed with peaty material from screen 18 to form a pulp suitable for making into board on papermaking machine 36. The colloidal peat may be mixed with a coarse fibre suspension in screw press 40, the mixture being shredded in shredder 41 and dried in drier 42 to form a solid fuel product. <IMAGE> [GB2129844A]
