Abstract

Gene exchange in organisms of the genera Streptomyces and Nocardia is facilitated by using the technique of protoplast fusion. In this technique, physical and enzymatic barriers to gene exchange are overcome and the formation of hybrid cells is favoured. The process is particularly suitable for the development of hybrid strains having specific properties. [GB1602074A]
