Abstract

A. Tube Connection including at least a cam of coupling formed by a deformation carried out in the wall of the connection, this cam comprising a first tilted wall extending starting from the higher loose lead from the cam towards the end nearest to the connection and a second wall laid out between the interior wall of the connection and the aforementioned higher loose lead, the distance between this higher end of the cam and the axis of the connection being increasingly smaller than the smallest distance enters the interior wall of the connection and the axis of the aforesaid connection. B. The second wall of the cam of coupling is tilted of an angle to most equal to 70o compared to the wall of the connection, in a direction going towards the other end of the connection. C. Pipes of drainage. [FR2389823A1]

Description

The present invention relates to socket parts for spigot and sodket pipe connections and such connections.
The invention is particularly but not exclusively applicable to the connection of corrugated plastics pipes having circumferential crests and troughs. Such corrugated pipes may be used for drainage purposes.
The present invention includes a socket part having an open end for receiving a spigot to form a 0 o spigot and socket pipe connection, said socket part comprising at least one coupling cam disposed in a substantially cylindrical socket wall region adjacent said end, the or each coupling cam comprising first and second wall portions diverging from a common end disposed radially inwardly of the socket wall, the other ends of the first and second wall portion adjoining the socket wall at first and second locations respectively, the first location being axially nearer the socket end than the second location, the second wall portion lying in a plane which has an angle of intersection of at most 70® with a plane perpendicular to an axial section through the cam, the cam wall portions and the socket wall in G said region having substantially the same thickness.
The invention also provides a spigot and socket pipe connection comprising a socket part as defined in the above -3paragraph having a spigot comprising a corrugated pipe part inserted therein.
In order that the invention may be well understood an embodiment thereof will now be described by way of example only, with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which: Figure 1 shows a perspective view of a double-ended socket part for use in a spigot and socket pipe connection; and Figure 2 shows a schematic longitudinal axial section through a spigot and socket pipe connection utilising a double-ended socket part to interconnect two corrugated pipe parts.
A double-ended socket part for use in a spigot and socket pipe connection has two open ends 14 for receiving spigots in the form of corrugated pipe end parts 10 a3 shown in Figure 2. The open ends 14 are defined by substantially cylindrical socket wall portions 4 which are interconnected by a corrugated portion 3. The corrugated portion 3 is provided with circumferential crests 3a and troughs 3b. As illustrated the corrugations are sinusoidal in longitudinal cross-section, however they may also be formed as triangular in cross-section.
In each of the socket wall portions 4 a plurality of coupling cams 5 are provided adjacent the open oriel.
These coupling cams are spaced evenly apart around the inner circumference of the socket wall. Each coupling cam 5 is defined by first and second wall portions 7 and . -48 which diverge from a common end 6 which is disposed radially inwardly of the socket wall 4. The cam wall portions 7, 8 and the socket wall in region 4 all have substantially the same thickness. The other ends of the cam wall portions 7 and 8 join the socket wall at respective first and second locations. The first location is axially nearer the socket end 14 than the second location. The second wall portion 8 lies in a plane which has an angle of intersection of at most 70° with a plane perpendicular to an axial section through the cam such as the section shown in Figure 2. This angle of intersection may he for example 15 if the perpendicular plane is taken as the tangential plane to the socket wall adjacent the cam. This angle is perferably substantially 60°. Thus the second wall portion extends radially outwardly from common end 6 and slightly axially outvzardly towards open end 14. On account of this configuration a corrugated pipe end part 10 may readily be inserted into the socket part. During sliding insertion, the pipe end paht pushes against the first wall portions 7 of the coupling cams which are deflected radially outwardly causing the second wall portions 8 to be deformed to allow the pipe end to penetrate the socket part.
Once the pipe is in position its removal is resisted by the second wall portions 8. The pipe end parts 10 are provided with corrugations having crests 11 and troughs 12 connected by intermediate portions 13. Even when the intermediate portions 13 are inclined the coupling cams 6 5 6 0 -55 still resist removal of the pipe end part 10. Accordingly a completed pipe connection as described presents a high tensile resistance to attempts to disconnect it.
The socket part is preferably formed of a flexible plastics material such as polyethylene. The whole of the socket part may be moulded in one piece despite the angle 15. The provision of the corrugated portion 3 allows the double-ended socket part 1 to be axially compressed.
