Abstract

The filter cartridge consists of a cloth filter bag (18), a fixed cage (2), a plinth (5), the lid (6) and the paper filter bag (31) attached thereto. The cage (2) is surrounded on the outside by the cloth filter bag (18) and is fixed at the open end by the plinth (5). The lid (6) bearing the paper filter bag (31) is inserted in the plinth (5). The cage (2) has cutouts (3) at its end (1). The plinth (5) has sprung projections (4) at the height of the cutouts (3). Arranged on the plinth (5) is a latch which bears against the vacuum cleaner behind a step. Even, non-jolting removal of the filled paper filter bag without tearing it is thus guaranteed. The cage and plinth only need to be plugged together and hold the cloth filter bag at the same time.

Description

This invention relates to filter bag containers for suction cleaners. According to the present invention, there is provided a filter bag container for a suction cleaner, the container comprising a rigid cage carrying a fabric filter bag, the cage being attached to a base member of the container, the base member having means for latching the container to, and for separating the container from, the main body of the suction cleaner, the container having an end cover, this cover being adapted to carry a paper filter bag for insertion within said cage, being releasably engageable with said base member and providing a pipe for communicating the main body of the suction cleaner with the interior of said paper filter bag v/hen the container is mounted on said main body.
For a better understanding of the invention and to show how the same may be carried into effect, reference will now be made, by way of example, to the accompanying drawings, in which:Figure lisa diagrammatic side view of a suction cleaner having a filter bag container, Figure 2 is a detail, cut-away view to show the connection of the filter bag container to the main body of the suction cleaner, - 2 45868 Figure 3 is a longitudinal sectional view of the filter bag container and shows a paper filter bag fitted, and Figure 4 is an enlarged detail of a section taken along the line IV-IV in Figure 3.
Referring to the drawing, Figure 1 shows a suction cleaner with a main body 1 housing the motor etc., the body 1 carrying a working tool 2, a guiding handle 3 and a filter bag container 4.
The filter container 4 is releasably secured on one end of the main body 1 of the suction cleaner, this releasable securing being illustrated in Figures 2 and 3. The filter container 4 is so mounted on the main body 1 of the suction cleaner that a member forming the base 5 of the container 4 bears on one end of the body 1 within a collar 6 of the body 1. The container 4 has a latch 7 which can engage behind a shoulder 8 around the end of the collar 6. The latch 7 is integral with a part 9 extending from, and integral with, the base 5 of the container 4 and a pressure applied to the part 9 releases the filter container 4 completely from the main body 1 of the suction cleaner.
Figures 3 and 4 show the container 4, which includes a fabric filter bag 10, which is shown in chain-dot lines, a rigid cage 11 inside the bag 10, the base 5, an end cover 12 for the base 5 and a paper filter bag 13 inside the cage 11 and carried by the cover 12. The cage 11 is rigidly attached to the base 5.
The cover 12 is insertable as shown in the base 5 and is frictionally held by means of holding members 14 frictionally engaging the base 5 and the periphery of the cover, the cover 12 defining at one side thereof a short pipe 15 for connecting the main body 1 of the suction cleaner with the interior of the paper filter bag 13. For better absorption of dimensional tolerances and for obtaining the required friction between the members 14 and the base 5, and to ensure a smooth removal of the cover 12 together with the paper filter bag 13 from the base 5, without tearing the bag 13, the members 14 have outwardly projecting ribs 16 which bear against the base 5. The members 14 can be made of an elastic material such as rubber. - 3 4 58 68 A packing 17, which is disposed between the edge of the cover 12 and the adjacent base 5, provides a seal between the cover 12 and the base 5. A packing 18, 1 which is disposed between the upstream end of the pipe 15 and the adjacent body 1, provides a seal between the pipe 15 and the body 1, The pipe 15 is so formed in the cover 12 that a cavity is formed around the pipe which is filled over at least part of its length with sound absorption material 19. Moreover, the pipe 15 is bent on one side at 20 and the downstream outlet of the pipe 15 is bevelled so that the air flow is directed away from the lateral side of the paper filter bag 13 to prevent damage to it. Furthermore, the cover 12 carries a handle 21, by which the cover 12 with the paper filter bag 13 can be withdrawn from the cage 11.
Figure 4 shows more clearly the connection between the cage 11, fabric filter bag 10 and the base 5. The cage 11 has recesses 22 in its rim 23 and at its open end. The base 5 has resilient projections 24 which are adapted to engage in the recesses 22. If the fabric filter bag 10 is placed over the cage 11 and the open end of the bag is wrapped around the end of the rim 23., but not so far as to cover the recesses 22 on the inside of the cage 11, and both the cage 11 and the bag 10 are forced together into the base 5, the projections 24 spring into the recesses 22 and the cage 11 and base 5 are thus firmly connected to one another, with the fabric filter bag 10 trapped in place.
Hooks 25 and 26 or other pointed projections are arranged on the base 5 and/or on the cage 11, these hooks or projections being adapted to penetrate into the fabric filter bag 10 and thus assist in securing it in place by clipping the bag between them. The cover 12 with the paper filter bag 13 can now be pushed into the base 5 onto the packing 17 and then the whole assembly can be fitted easily on the main body 1 of the cleaner.
