Description

This invention relates to a tag board for supporting electric components. In the fields of electronics-and tele-, communicationsj.a plurality of components such as resistances, capacitors, diodes and the like are connected to wires in order to make circuits intended to be integrated into operational systems.
In that purpose, the Components are connected by soldering their connecting leads,, for example, to tags or lugs which are themselves fastened to an insulating base, Further, wires connected to said lugs provide electrical^connection to external devices or circuits.
Ho.wever, in such systems, the various soldering and fastening operations to the tags,, are entirely made hy hand,, which leads to-a-high, manufacturing cost,.
Moreover, such.systems take up-a considerable amount of 15 space; the result is that the-units into which they are integrated tend to be bulky, .
Preferred embodiments of this invention help to remedy / the disadvantages summarized above by facilitating-automatic production at low. cost of tag boards which permit said components to be arranged in a reduced space.
The present invention provides a tag board for supporting electric components, the board comprising a base of insulating material with at. least one pair of tags fastened to the. base, each tag being constituted by a single, generally L-shaped piece .25 of metal, ohe part of the L shape constituting a leg part upstanding from the base for connection to external wires, and the other part of the L-shape constituting a foot part in contact with the base and including an opening for receiving a component lead, the opening being edged with a skirt which is received in a window in the base and which has a rim that is crimped to the base - 2 <14040 thereby fastening the tag to the base.
An embodiment of this invention is described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: - figure 1 is a perspective exploded view of a tag or lug and a suppox-t base illustrating the invention; - figure 2 is a perspective view of a partially assembled board embodying the invention and supporting electric componentss and - figure 3 is a sectional view along a line A.A. of figure 2, In figur·? 1, a tag or lug generally referenced 1 is to be assembled tc a base 9 to form part of a tag board embodying the invention.
The tag has two parts» an upper or leg part 2 and a lower οχ- foot part 3 which are substantially at right angles to each other. Upper part 2 has on its upper edge a notch t and also a substantially central opening 5» whereas the lower- part 3 has an opening 6 edged with a skirt 7 destined to be engaged into a window 8 formed in the base 9 of the board.
The tags 1 are made of a conductive material such as an aluminium alloy, the base 9 being made of a plastic material, for example Bakelite (registered Τχ-ade Mark).
Figures 2 and 3 show an assembled tag board embodying the invention. skipts Pairs of tags 1/face each other and are inserted in the base 9 by their 7 which are first engaged in the windows 8 and then have their lower edges crimped to said 1 >, windows. Electrical components 10 have their connecting leads haviOQ and engaged by/tne’ir ends folded in openinga 6/then soldered in (as shown at 12)/ the openings. The soldering being advantageously carried out by the reflow soldering method.
Finally wires 13 are engaged in the notches 4 and soldered into openings 5 to link the components electrically with external circuits or devices not shown.
In consequence,) it can be seen that such a tagboard enables a compact group of components 10 to be provided and also enables their automatic soldering consequently affording a moderate manufacturing cost.
Advantageous applications of this invention are found more particularly in the telecommunications field.
Of course, this invention is by no means limited to the embodiment described and 3hown in the drawings which is given only as an example.
In particular, without going beyond the scope of the invention, it is possible to change various details for example j the vertical part 2 can have any desired shape in order to connect with other types of connections 5 in particular it can have a screw thread to receive a connection held by a nut, or it can be extended with a rectangular section rod to receive a wrapped connection.
