Description

42728 - 2 - This invention relates to a games racket,particularly for a game designated by the name "tennis-volley", the rules of which have been compiled by the applicant.

Various types of games rackets are already known a, 5 which have a flat portion extended by'handle which permits gripping of the racket. These conventional rackets are designed with a view particularly to certain games ,such as tennis, badminton, table tennis, etc.

These rackets conform to «e)1-defined standards in keep-0 ing with the particular rules compiled for each of the games mentioned above.

None of these traditional rackets is adapted for the playing of the game designated by the name of "tennis volley", which has its own rules as regards the equipment ^ to be used.

The present invention has for its object to provide a games racket of simple design and easy manufacture, more particularly adapted to the playing of the game designated by the name "tennis-volley". 0 According to the invention there is provided a racket for playing a game such as tennis-volley, the racket being made of a single flat piece of material and comprising a handle and a playing plate , said playing plate defining a playing surface which has an arcuate edge _ remote from the handle, two straight edges extending one 4 27 28 - 3 - from each end of said arcuate edge and converging towards the handle, and two converging further edges extending between the straight edges and the handle.

Tlvls racket is of very easy manufacture and^as a 5 result, of very low cost, seeing that there is no assembly of different parts involved.

Preferably the free end of the handle is wider than its end adjacent the playing plate to provide good grip for the user. If desired the free end of the handle 10 may be of rounded shape.

Preferably, each of the converging further edges comprises a first arcuate section extending from one of said straight edges, a straight section, extending from said first arcuate section towards the handle, and a second 15 arcuate section extending between the straight section and the handle.

The handle and the playing plate are preferably of equal thickness.

The invention will be better understood with the 20 aid of an embodiment of a games racket diagrammatically represented on the attached drawings, in which:- Figure 1 is a top view of the racket; Figure 2 is a side view of che racket.

According to Figure 1 the games racket 1 is made 25 of a single piece cut out from a plate of solid material so as to form a handle 2 integral with the flat part 3 constituting the playing plate or surface of the racket 1.

The handle 2 has a free end 4 wider than the end 5 adjacent the plate 3. 30 This feature provides a good grip for the user and prevents the racket escaping from the hands of the player during use.

The plate 3 has an upper portion 6 of rounded shape, constituted by two quarters of circles whose centres are 35 coincident and which lie on the longitudinal axis of symmetry of the racket. 42728 - 4 - lO Plate 3 also has a lower portion 7 bounded by two straight edges extending one from each end of the rounded edge of the upper portion 6 and by two converging further edges extending between the straight edges and the handle 2. The further edges are of arcuate form where indicated at 8 and 9 and also where they meet the handle.

The shape of this racket was arrived at on the basis of the game known under the name of "tennis volley" having quite specific rules as to the equipment to be used.

The games racket 1 is cut out in a single piece from a sheet of rigid material, such as plywood. Racket 1 thus has flat and smooth surfaces, both for the handle 2 and the flat part 3.

It is possible to modify the cutting out of the 15 handle, so that the shape of the latter might be more particularly suited to a player, in order to allow him a better grip. The type of plywood used for the production of this games racket 1 should resist deformation during the game and permit the playing of "tennis volley" in the open in all 20 weathers.

According to Figure 2, the racket 1 is represented in side view. Handle 2 as well as plate 3 have the same thickness. This thickness is of the order of 18 to 19 mm, and the total weight of the racket 1 should not exceed 25 700 grammes. The most suitable weight for the production of the racket 1 is between 450 and 600 grammes.

The thickness and the weight of the racket 1 have been calculated in such a manner that the racket adapts itself in the best possible way to a round ball of the 30 size, weight and consistency of a tennis ball.

Naturally, the invention is not limited to the example of embodiment described and represented hereinabove, from which it will be possible to provide other forms and other methods of embodiment, without departing from the 35 scope of the invention as defined in the appended claims. 4 2728 - 5 -

Claims

1. CLAIMS: - 1- A racket for playing a game such as tennis-volley, the racket being made of a single flat piece of material and comprising a handle and a playing plate, said playing 5 plate defining a playing surface which has an arcuate edge remote from the handle, two straight edges extending one from each end of said arcuate edge and converging towards the handle,and two converging further edges extending between the straight edges and the handle. 10

2. A racket, according to Claim 1, in which the free end of the handle is wider than its end adjacent the playing plate to provide good grip for the user.

3. A racket, according to Claiir. 1 or 2, in which the free end of the handle is of rounded shape. 15

4. A racket, according to any preceding claim in which each of the converging further edges comprises a first arcuate section extending from one of said straight edges, a straight section extending from said first arcuate section towards the handle, and a second arcuate section extending 2q between the straight section and the handle.

5. A racket, according to any preceding claim, in which the handle and the playing plate are of equal thickness.
