Abstract
1498831 Coatings comprising polytetrafluoroethylene and a triketoimidazolidine polymer HOECHST AG 24 March 1975 [26 March 1974] 12144/75 Headings C3P and C3R A coating composition comprises (a) 10-90 parts of a low molecular weight polytetrafluoroethylene (one having a melt viscosity of 10<SP>1</SP>-10<SP>8</SP> poises at 380‹ C.), with a specific surface of 1-40 m.<SP>2</SP>/g., and a mean particle diameter of 0À1-50 microns; (b) 90-10 parts by weight of a polymer containing repeating units of where R is a monoto trinuclear, bito tetravalent aromatic radical, R<SP>1</SP> is as R, or is an aliphatic or cycloaliphatic hydrocarbon radical, n is an integer of from 1 to 70; and (c) an aprotic organic solvent with a surface tension of > 30 dyne/cm. at 20‹ C. optionally mixed with another organic solvent without one or more of these properties, but which has a boiling point lower than the aprotic solvent. The radicals R may optionally be linked by aliphatic radicals or hetero atoms, and may be substituted by monovalent radicals such as alkyl, cycloalkyl, alkoxy, or aryl groups; the radicals R<SP>1</SP> may optionally be interrupted by (i) amide, imide and/or amidoimide groups, (ii) chelate forming azo or azomethine groups, (iii) metal chelates derived from (ii). In the examples component (b) was prepared using various combinations of the following: isophthalic acid, 5 aminoisophthalic acid, salicylaldehyde, trimellitic anhydride, 4,4<SP>1</SP>- di - isocyanato diphenylmethane 3,3<SP>1 </SP>- dimethyl - 4,4<SP>1 </SP>- diisocyanato diphenylmethane, 4,4<SP>1 </SP>- diamino - diphenylmethane, 4,4<SP>1 </SP>- bis(ethoxalylamino) - diphenylmethane, 4,4<SP>1</SP> - bis - (ethoxalylamino) - diphenylether, 4,4<SP>1 </SP>- diisocyanato - diphenyl ether, the azo compound from the coupling of p-cresol with 3,5-dicarboxy-phenyldiazonium chloride, and the azomethine prepared by the reaction of 5-amino-isophthalic acid with 1<SP>1</SP>- hydroxy-2<SP>1</SP>-naphthaldehyde. Solvent (c) in the examples was N-methylpyrrolidone dimethylformamide or dimethylsulphoxide.
