Abstract

1478691 Roof covering BPB INDUSTRIES Ltd 21 March 1975 [21 March 1974 2 May 1974] 11983/74 and 19410/74 Heading E1W A moisture resistant material suitable for use in roofing or as a damp course or waterproofing sheet comprises a layer of iron foil which has been coated to render it corrosion resistant and bonded to the foil a layer of woven reinforcing material. The iron foil is preferably produced by electrodeposition as described in Specification 1341229 and is rendered corrosion resistant by coating with electroplated zinc, copper, nickel or tin or with a plastics skin of an acrylic or polyester resin. The woven material may be a scrim of hessian, cotton, glass or a plastics such as ethylene or propylene polymer, nylon or polyethylene terephthalate. The moisture resistant material may be bonded to a roof decking by a hot applied adhesive, a cold applied adhesive or an adhesive tape or it may be laid loose or it may be laid loose and followed by heat insulation material such as phenolic foam, cork or a urethane material laid loose over it and both simultaneously mechanically fastened to the roof deck, the overlap joints being sealed with hot bitumen or other adhesive prior to the fastening. The insulation is protected by weatherproofing layers provided by additional layers of the coated reinforced foil material or by conventional bitumen felts, plastic or synthetic rubber sheets, or mastic asphalt.
