1470110 Racemizing phenylalkylamines SYNTHELABO 29 Nov 1974 [29 Nov 1973 31 Oct 1974] 51828/74 Addition to 1415471 Heading C2C A racemic mixture of optical isomers of a phenylalkylamine derivative of the Formula (I) wherein Z is a H, Cl, CF 3 CF 3 O or CF 3 S radical, and each of R 1 and R 2 , which may be the same or different, is H or a straight or branched C 1-5 alkyl radical, a C 3-6 cycloalkyl radical or a phenylalkyl radical optionally substituted by a chlorine atom, or R 1 and R 2 , together with the nitrogen atom, form a heterocyclic radical, or an acid addition salt thereof, is obtained by oxidizing an optical isomer of a phenylalkylamine derivative (I) with N-chlorosuccinimide to give a 1-phenyl-2-propanone of Formula (II) which is then condensed with an amine of the formula HNK 1 R 2 to give a racemic mixture of optical isomers of the phenylalkylamine (I). The mixture so produced can then be resolved using known techniques. The process can be repeated as often as necessary to increase the yield of a desired isomer. [GB1470110A]
