Abstract
6,6'-Dichloro-6,6'-dideoxysucrose is prepared by the following reaction steps: a) reaction of sucrose with methanesulphonyl chloride in N,N-dimethylformamide, b) complete acetylation of the resulting chlorinated sucrose and isolation of the acetylated product containing 6,6'-dichloro-6,6'-dideoxysucrose hexaacetate, c) purification of the said hexaacetate and d) deacetylation of the purified hexaacetate. To suppress the formation of a trichlorinated by-product, it is advantageous to allow the reaction in stage a) to start at a temperature in the range from -40 to -15 DEG C. In order, furthermore, to remove any formate by-products which are present in the product, it is advisable for the acetylated product which has been obtained in stage b) to be deacetylated before the purification stage c) and subsequently acetylated once again. The product prepared according to the invention is used as intermediate for the preparation of sucrose derivatives which are required, for example, for the preparation of resins.
