Abstract

1435230 Switching valves for pneumatic conveyers McKENZIE & RIDLEY Ltd 10 June 1974 [13 June 1973] 25650/74 Heading B8A [Also in Division F2] A pneumatic conveyer and container assembly includes one or more diverter valves each comprising a rotary housing 2, Fig. 1, containing an inclined pipe 5 which is in permanent communication at its end 5b with an inlet 6 and is selectively communicable at its other end 5a, on rotation of the housing, with one of two or more outlets provided in a fixed plate 15. Sealing means 11, 19a, 21, 28 and a bearing 12 are provided. The housing may be rotated by an hydraulic, mechanical or electric motor and in the present embodiment is rotated by a piston and cylinder arrangement 41, 42, Fig. 3, via a piston rod and a lever 39 attached to the housing. A handle may be provided for manual rotation. A conveyer and container assembly for delivering milk and salted cheese curd substance from an inlet 60, Fig. 4, to containers in the form of presses 56 includes a number of diverter valves 51. Each valve directs the substance either through a pipe 58 to an associated group of presses or through the main pipe on to the next valve 51, excess substance being returned via outlet 61. Cleansing fluid, e.g. a mild caustic solution, may be passed through the main pipe, valves 51 and pipes 58, whereafter it is drained via hoses (not shown), tubes 72 and a drain main 71.
