Abstract

1434832 Rescue apparatus W S GREEN 23 April 1974 [4 May 1973] 21460/73 Heading A5X A device facilitating the rescue of bedridden patients in case of an emergency comprises a flexible rectangular sheet 1 which fits under the patient's mattress, a handle at at least one narrower end of the sheet, the handle being secured directly to the sheet, and two or more single flexible straps 3, 4 extending widthwise of the sheet, each strap extending at each end beyond the edge of the sheet and being provided with a buckle to enable the two ends thereof to be secured together, and each strap being securely attached to the sheet throughout the region in which the strap extends across the sheet. The sheet may be produced from nylon or stretcher canvas and preferably has two handles 13, 14. The buckles on the straps are preferably of the quick-release variety and one part of the buckle preferably releasably grasps the strap to allow tensioning of the strap. In use, the sheet is fastened across the patient and the straps are tensioned to partially enclose the patient in the mattress, the mattress and patient then being dragged out of danger using the handle.
