Abstract

1439728 Brevibacterium grown with Trichosporon cutaneum INST MIKROBIOLOGII IM AUGUSTA KIRKHENSHTE AKAD NAUK LATVII SSR 4 March 1974 [24 Sept 1973] 9551/74 Heading C6F An L-lysine feeding concentrate is produced by preseeding a nutrient medium comprising carbon, nitrogen, phosphorus and growth stimulants with a Brevibacterium culture, introducing Trichosporon cutaneum, which does not assimilate L-lysine, at 0.02-1.0 vol % of the culture liquid within 20 hours from the start of fermentation, co-cultivating the micro-organisms by submerged cultivation, and evaporating and drying the culture liquid produced. Longitudinal distribution of liquid flow across a tank containing obstructions, e.g. a plurality of transverse electrodes for electrolytic refining or recovering metal from spent pickling or plating liquid, is controlled by feeding liquid into the tank from a plurality of inlets 10 distributed along the length of one side 2 of the tank and permitting the liquid to leave the tank by a plurality of outlets (20), Fig.3 (not shown), distributed along the length of the opposite side 3 of the tank, the rate of flow at each inlet and outlet being individually regulated to obtain the required flow distribution. Preferably the inlets and outlets are distributed uniformly along the lengths of the sides and the flow-rates therethrough are equalized. Each inlet/ outlet preferably incorporates a spout 13,(22). As shown, each inlet 10 includes a duct 11 fed from supply pipe 9 through valve 12; liquid from outlet spouts (22) is collected in trough 24 to drain through pipes 25, 26. Outlets (20) may be arranged at a uniform height partly above and partly below the liquid level to operate as weirs (21) leading into downwardly inclined spouts (22). Each weir may be of V-shaped cross-section; flowrates at the outlets may be equalized by enlarging those weir outlets having a flow-rate less than the greatest. The base 1 and sides 2-4 of the tank may be of laminated polyester resin-bonded glass fibre with inner lining of PVC. The tank may have steel reinforced peripheral flange 5 and rib 7. [GB1439728A]
