Abstract

1450412 Co-cultivation of methanol-utilizing micro-organisms SHELL INTERNATIONALE RESEARCH MAATSCHAPPIJ BV 18 Feb 1974 [20 Feb 1973] 8198/73 Heading C6F A methanol-utilizing micro-organism is grown aerobically in a medium comprising methanol, assimilable nitrogen, and essential salts, in the presence of one or more non-methanol-utilizing micro-organisms which are capable of metabolizing a product of the methanol-utilizing microorganism. The methanol-utilizing micro-organism may be the Gram-negative, non-motile, non-sporeforming, rod-shaped bacterium NCIB No 11040, or a strain of Pseudomonas, Hyphomicrobium, Vibrio bacteria, Pichia, Candida, Torulopsis, or Hansenula and the non-methanol-utilizing microorganism may be a strain of Pseudomonas, Arthrobacter, Chromobacterium, Mycobacterium, Achromobacter, Acinetobacter, Curto bacterium, and/or members of the Enterobacteriaceae. A specified mixed culture designated JMS 72 may be employed. The temperature is preferably maintained at 38-45‹C, and the pH at 6À4-7À4. [GB1450412A]
