Abstract
A process for reducing the concentration of ammonia and ammonium carbamate in an impure aqueous solution of urea, which process comprises passing the impure aqueous solution downwardly through a vessel and heating at least a portion of the aqueous solution of urea so as to produce a gaseous phase which passes upwardly through the vessel in countercurrent to the aqueous solution, die contact time between the aqueous solution of urea and the gaseous phase being less than 60 seconds.
