Steroid anaesthetics of the pregnane and 19-norpregnane series are described, the compounds having a 5 alpha -hydrogen atom or a 4,5-double bond, a 3 alpha -hydroxy group, a 17 alpha -hydrogen atom, a 20-oxo group and a 21-fluorine atom.
