Abstract

1434751 Purification of NaCl AKZONA Inc 11 April 1973 [12 April 1972] 17302/73 Heading C1A NaCl is purified by heating a solution of NaCl containing CaSO 4 as impurity to a temperature above the boiling point at atmospheric pressure of the solution, which is high enough to agglomerate at least some of the CaSO 4 which is removed preferably by centrifuging. The purified brine is cooled to recover NaCl. Mother liquors may be re-cycled to dissolve more impure NaCl. Solid NaCl may be added to the solution after heating to increase the concentration and the excess removed prior to removing the solid CaSO 4 . The process may be carried out in a closed system. Crystallization of NaCl may be effected in a series of evaporators as in Fig. 2 (not shown). [GB1434751A]
