Abstract

1292711 Containers G J REINDERS 16 Jan 1970 [16 Jan 1969] 2276/70 Heading B8P An open-topped transport container comprises a base 5 defining a convex floor of the container, the floor being provided with groove portions 6 communicating with drainage apertures 7, 9, at least one pair of mutually opposed side walls 1, 2 widening to become further spaced from one another as they rise from the base 5, the pair of side walls 1, 2 being provided with corrugations 12, 13 extending substantially the full height of each wall of the pair, the corrugations on one of the side walls of the pair being offset relatively to the corrugations on the other of the side walls of the pair in such a manner that crests of the corrugations in said one side wall lie opposite troughs of corrugations in said other side wall, a stacking surface portion 17 at the top of each respective side wall of the pair, each side wall of the pair being provided with a respective extension 11 projecting below the base, a rim portion 18 projecting upwardly from the outer edge of each respective stacking surface portion, and a plurality of bosses 17<SP>11</SP> usptand. ing from the stacking surface portions, the relative spacing between the bosses upstanding from the respective stacking surface portions 17 and the relative spacing between the extension 11 of the respective side walls being such that when an extension of a side wall of an identical further container is in contact with one of the stacking surface portions 17 movement of this extension in a direction towards the other stacking surface portion is resisted. As shown, in which the container is injection moulded in a plastics material, the base 5 and the walls 3, 4 are also corrugated. Stacking projections in the form of studs 11 or as projections of the walls 1, 2 are formed integrally with the base 5. The containers can be stacked with corrugations on wall 2 above corrugations 12 on wall 1 or nested with corrugations 12 and 13 lying opposite one another. A handle opening 16 is formed in the end walls 3, 4. The tops of the walls 1-4 merge into the rim 18 comprising the stacking surface 17 and a bead. Stop ribs 24 projecting from the side walls, determine the depth of penetration of nested containers. Deflector webs are disposed on the side wall corrugations adjacent the bead of the rim 18.
