Abstract

1281688 Granule distributor FISONS Ltd 4 Sept 1969 [17 Sept 1968] 44068/68 Heading A1D An apparatus for distributing granular material comprises a cascade of riffles A, each of which includes a symmetrical deep box provided with vertical equally spaced webs the tops of which form a horizontal grid below the level of the top of the box, the lower part of each web being connected to its neighbour to form an oblique chute, means being provided to supply granules to the first riffle which divides the supply into at least two streams, and to pass the streams from the terminal riffles to a distribution means. The riffles may be of rectangular or cylindrical shape and may be injection moulded. The sloping lower walls of the riffles and the connecting tubes C and D, which may be flexible, are all arranged so that they are inclined at an angle of at least 40‹ to the horiznotal. The riffles may divide the supply into more than two streams and a plurality of each of the streams may be connected together to produce at least two larger streams. An endless cup and bucket elevator may be provided to lift the granular material from the hopper to the first riffle. The supply to the first riffle may be controlled by the track speed of the vehicle on which the apparatus is mounted and a device may be provided to smooth any irregularity in the supply comprising two cones having their wider open ends uppermost and their closed narrower ends lowermost, and wedge-shaped slots in their surfaces with the wide ends uppermost.
