Abstract

The present invention relates to dual purpose 3 chamber cone shaped flue heat exchanger. Its purpose is to heat existing air and water in your premises thus reducing your fuel costs and ozone emissions. Major advantage of this unit is having extremely low running cost no moving parts and is permanently installed and everlasting.

Description

FIELD OF INVENTION This invention relates to a dual-purpose flue heat exchanger (to heat both air and water) permanently mounted in the chimney breast immediately above the heat source (open fire or stove). It replaces the existing concrete flue gatherer (the traditional way of supporting the standard flue pipe). The unit harnesses waste heat from existing source. its purpose is to heat existing air and water in your premises thus reducing your fuel costs.
Advantages of this unit is a low running cost, no moving parts and its permanent installation.
It is a secondary source of heat for water and air at no extra cost. It also reduces ozone emissions by reducing your source input.
This invention can be easily fit in a new build or can also be retrofit into an existing chimney breast.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION.
This invention consisted of 3 chambers. Heat travels from an inner chamber through a system of design, baffles and diverter and is transferred to the outer chambers.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF DRAWINGS.
Fig 1 shows a bottom view of the base plate used in the heat exchanger Fig 2 shows an external view of the heat exchanger to be positioned into the chimney breast Fig 3 shows a front internal view of the exchanger Fig 4 shows a 3D internal view of the exchanger.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION.
This invention given as A dual-purpose flue heat exchanger comprising: an external circular enclosure with a flue (9) being positioned internally of a secondary flue support (8) situated above and connected to the external circular enclosure. An inner core (11) comprising a series of baffles (7) positioned on its outer surface and an outer core (13) also comprising a series of baffles (7) positioned on its outer surface, wherein the inner core (11) is positioned internal to the outer core (13), also wherein the outer core (13) is positioned internal to the external circular enclosure. The inner and outer core being heated by the warm air delivered up the flue (9) from the domestic heat source. An air chamber (5) is created between the outer core (13) and the inner core (11) and a water chamber (6) is created between the outer core (13) and external circular enclosure.
An air inlet pipe (1) is connected through the lower portion of the outer core (13) to the air chamber (5). This air is circulated in the air chamber (5) by means of a fan (not shown). An air outlet pipe (3) is connected through the upper portion of the outer core (13) to the domestic heating system. A water inlet pipe (2) is connected through the lower portion of the external circular enclosure to the water chamber (6) and a water outlet pipe (4) connected through the upper portion of the external circular enclosure to the domestic water system. With this system the air input through the air inlet pipe (1 ) to the air chamber (5) is heated by the inner core (11) and the baffles (7) situated thereon, this heated air being delivered via the air outlet pipe (3) to the domestic heating system and the water input through the water inlet pipe (2) is heated by the outer core (13) and the baffles (7) situated thereon, this heated water being delivered via the water outlet pipe (4) to the domestic water system.
The working of the inventions can be seen as: Heating air: As it is estimated that 80% of heat created is lost through chimneys, the basic idea is to catch some of the waste heat exiting the chimney through this cone shaped device (as can be seen in figure 3). As heat exits upward, some is transferred by a diverter (10) to an internal chamber (12), surrounded by the inner cone (11). This inner cone (11) contains a system of baffles (7) positioned on the outer surface of the inner cone (11) to retain the heat before any residual heat exits through the flue (9). This flue (9) being positioned internally of a secondary flue support (8). This heat retained in the inner cone (11) heats a supply of low temperature air being pushed through the air inlet pipe (1) and circulated into the air chamber (5) with the aid of a fan (not shown). This air is pushed around and up the air chamber (5) gaining in temperature as it does so. It exits through an air output pipe (3) to circulate to the domestic heating system throughout the premises.
Heating water: Simultaneously, the heated air (in the air chamber (5)) heats the walls of the outer cone (13) and heat is retained by a series of baffles (7) positioned on the outer wall of said outer cone (13).
Water from existing domestic usage is passed through pipe (2) into the water chamber (6), where it is heated by the walls of the outer cone (13) and the baffles (7) positioned thereon.
The heated water in the water chamber (6) circulates up and around the outer cone (13) and exits through an output pipe (4) to be distributed to the domestic water system throughout the premises.
The inner and outer cones (11, 13) being supported by a base plate (14).
The inner and outer cones (11, 13) being enclosed within an external circular enclosure. This external enclosure having access and exit points for the input pipes (1,2) and the output pipes (3,4).
The diverter in the inner chamber (10) is easily removable as its supported from base plate (14) with four support rods as can be seen in figure 1.
