Abstract
A fire barrier 1 to provide a fire safe break between the top of a party wall and a roof covering comprises a single piece support member 2 having a channel 3 for receiving a gasket 6 of fire resistant material. The support member 2 has a pair of integral sides 7, 8 which extend sidewardly thereof. The sides 7, 8 extend longitudinally beyond the channel 3 at one end thereof for overlapping with a like fire barrier 1, on assembly.
Description
The invention relates to a sealing system and in particular to a fire barrier for locations between the top of a party wall and a roof covering.
Statements of Invention
According to the invention there is provided a fire barrier to provide a fire safe break between the top of a party wall and a roof covering, the barrier comprising a single piece support member having a channel for receiving a gasket of fire resistant material and a pair of integral sides extending sidewardly thereof wherein the sides extend longitudinally beyond the channel at one end thereof for overlapping with a like fire barrier, on assembly.
In one embodiment the channel is a dovetail shape having an enlarged bottom portion and a narrower top portion for entrapping the gasket.
The sides may extend from the top portion of the channel.
In one embodiment at least one of the sides has an angled portion for supporting a flashing or the like. Both sides may have such angled portions.

-2Brief Description of the Drawings
The invention will be more clearly understood from the following description thereof given by way of example only, in which: Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a fire barrier according to the invention;
Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the fire barrier being assembled to a like fire barrier;
Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the assembled fire barriers;
Fig. 4 is a cross sectional view of the fire barrier; and
Figs. 5 to 7 are view of the fire barrier system, in use.
Detailed Description
Referring to the drawings there is illustrated a fire barrier 1 according to the invention which is located in use on top of a party wall to provide a fire break between the party wall and any roof covering. The fire barrier 1 comprises a single piece support member 2 of a suitable fire resistant material such as steel. The support comprises a channel 3 of dovetail shape having an enlarged bottom portion 4 and a narrower top portion 5 for entrapping a gasket 6 of a suitable fire barrier material such as rock fibre.
A pair of integrated side portions 7,8 extend downwardly from the narrow top portion 5 and angled portions 9, 10 extend upwardly from the side portions 7, 8 for reception of flashings or the like.

-3The side portions 7, 8 extend longitudinally at 7a, 8a beyond the channel 3 at one end of the support member 2 for end overlapping with a like support member 2 on assembly as illustrated in Figs. 2 and 3. This feature is very advantageous because the barriers can be supplied in lightweight short lengths and readily assembled on site to form a barrier of any desired length. Hence, the barrier can be used on any roof size.
The invention is not limited to the embodiments hereinbefore described which may be varied in detail.
