Abstract

Abstract A security system for personal items employing communications between transmitting and receiving radio technology. A system that may or may not involve a mobile phone. The protection of personal goods is secured by embedding a transmitter either as part of a mobile phone or as a stand alone device and a receiver(s) in another personal good(s). A security alert will be triggered if the transmitter devices and receiver device move outside a predefined range. This sound or alert to the owner will be triggered if the transmitter and receiver move apart greater than the pre-defined limit .

Description

”A System for securing personal items using transmitting and receiving devices” Introduction The invention relates to radio technology and the communication between a number of separate devices for the purposes of ensuring the security of one or more personal items such as a mobile phone, laptop computer, wallet or handbag.
Statements of Invention This describes a system employing communications between transmitting and receiving radio technology, which may or may not involve a mobile phone. This relates to the protection of personal goods by embedding the transmitter either as part of a mobile phone or as a stand alone device and a receiver(s) in another personal good(s), which is protected by virtue of the fact that if these devices move outside a predefined range, the transmitter will alert the owner or make a sound. This sound or alert to the owner will be triggered if the transmitter and receiver move apart greater than the pre-defined limit (for example: ten metres).
In the transmitter the following two options are possible: Embedded into the technology of the mobile phone to take advantage of the existing technology of the battery power and ringing option, the transmitter technology is added to the mobile phone and by default also protects the mobile phone handset.
The other option is that the transmitter is a standalone radio device which has integrated battery and ringing capabilities, if the receiving device(s) move apart greater than the pre-defined limit from the transmitter, then the owner will be alerted by a ringing sound.
Both these devices serve to protect the transmitting device and the receiving device(s) as the ringing mechanism will activate if the pre- defined distance in meters has been breached, thus indicating that the transmitting or receiving device is being separated by the pre-defined distance and a potential loss or theft of these devices necessitates the owner to be alerted.
Detailed Description of the Invention The invention will be more clearly understood from the following description of some embodiments thereof.
Assume that the chosen distance that triggers the alert is set at 10 meters. If the transmitting device is positioned a distance greater than 10 meters from the receiving device, an alert via a radio signal is sent to the owner indicating that their personal item which contains either a transmitting and/ or receiving ’WatchDOG' device has been separated by the trigger distance. The alert can be sent via a ringing mobile phone, a ringing transmitter or a ringing device separately carried by the owner. This will be the only functionality of the ’WatchDOG’.
It is envisaged that the owner will be free to integrate the receiving device(s) onto any personal item they wish to protect. It is envisaged that as part of the IEOZUS35 packaging an attachment mechanism will be utilised to aid the owner in switching the receiving device between items as they deem fit.
It is envisaged that this device will either be sold:- . To a mobile phone manufacturer to sell as a protection against the loss or theft of their devices, along with the protection of the customers receiving personal affects using one or more receiving devices.
. To a mobile operator to sell as a protection against loss of theft of any devices connected to their network, along with the protection of the customers receiving personal affects using one or more receiving devices.
. Directly to the end consumer by the owners of the ’WatchDOG’ technology as a mechanism to protect personal effects.
Brief Description of the Drawings The invention will be more clearly understood from the following description of with reference to the accompanying drawings in which:- Fig. 1 is a flow diagram how the ’WatchDOG' device if integrated into the mobile phone and other receiving device such as a wallet. The diagrams illustrates the receiving device positioned within the pre-defined limit and positioned outside this limit. In the latter case, the receiving device will raise an alert or the transmitting device will raise an alert.
Figs. 2 illustrates a number of receiving devices and a single transmitting device. In this example, receiving device E will raise an alert as it is positioned in excess of the 10 meter boundary configured by the application.

Claims (1)

  1. Claims A method for ensuring the security of personal items such as mobile phones, laptop computers, wallets, handbags etc by using radio transmitting and receiving devices that will raise an alert if a certain predefined distance separates the transmitting device from the receiving device. The transmitting device can operate with multiple receiving devices. The transmitting device can be embedded within and powered by a mobile phone, PDA or laptop computer. The pre-defined range that receiving devices can be positioned without raising an alert can be configured by the user or manufacturer. The transmitting device can be powered independent of any other device. |E020585 - 4 _
