The interface includes a stationary interface unit connected to a telephone office via a signal transmission connection. Several spaced apart movable base stations are each uniquely associated with the telephone office. The base stations are supported on a conveying device for limited movement in a specified direction within an area defined relative to the stationary interface. The movable base stations are each responsive to radio signals transmitted by the mobile telephone units to transmit corresponding radio signals to the stationary interface unit. - The stationary interface is responsive to the radio signals transmitted from the movable units to transmit signals corresponding to the signals transmitted from the movable units to the telephone office via the signal transmission connection. Preferably, the mobile unit moves along a roadbed whilst the movable interface moves along a rail which runs parallel to the roadbed.
