Abstract
A novel isolated 1419 bp nucleic acid (I) encodes a 473 amino acid protein (II) that mediates male fertility in plants, both sequences are given in the specification. Also claimed are: (1) plasmids contg. (I); (2) an expression cassette contg. (I) operably linked to regulatory sequences allowing its expression in plant cells; and a method for mediating male fertility in maize plants comprising repressing (I) in plants.
