A milk substituting feed for calves resistant to bacteria is prepd. by the addn. of 0.3-0.5 pts. of dry crystalline di:carboxylic acid or a mixt. of di:carboxylic acids to a proportion of conventional feed of powdered skimmed or whole milk, sweet whey powder, cheese-whey powder malto-dextrin, vitamin and minerals. - (Premix 'A') Similarly 0.5-2.0 pts. mono-carboxylic acid is dispersed in pre-hydrated and extracted and/or hydrated soya bean meal, by dry mixing. (Premix 'B'). - The two premixes are united in a rapid or in a dough mixer. Fumaric-, citric-, oxal-acetic-, tartaric-, and malic acids are used as dicarboxylic acids; formic- propionic- acetic, lactic, -acrylic-acids are employed as monocarboxylic acids. The mixt. does not contain incompatible antibiotics or chemo-therapeutic agents.
