Abstract
Fibrous foodstuffs contg. 75% minimum raw fibre are prepd. from wheat or maize or from wheat or maize based plant matter as starting materials. These materials are subjected to acid or alkaline hydrolysis in aq. media. An organic solvent or solvent mixt. is used for the removal of lipids from the hydrolysate. Fibres prepd. thus, are capable of binding nine or ten times their own volume in water and four-five times their own volume in lipids. - Starting materials are: milling wheat or maize, bran fractions of wheat or maize, residual sieved fractions following removal of proteins and starch or such residual fractions mixed with extruded exfermentation residues
