Abstract

Waste paints produced mostly in water-curtain spray booths in oil and grease free stray sprays and contg. 80% max. water, other wastes and paint sediments are reclaimed as follows: prewashed paint sediments from collecting sumps are freed' from most of the water. Water soluble inorganic cpds. are removed by washing with water or deionised water and/or by ion exchange. Organic phosphate cpds. are added to washed pigment sediment and water content is reduced to 1-20%. Washed and treated paint residue is used up to 60 wt.% max. as filler in new water or solvent based paints or coatings, which also contain new binders, customary solvents, emulsifiers, colours, bactericides, and anti-skinning agents
