Abstract

A candle filter is used upstream of microfilter membranes in the food industry. - It comprises a perforated inner pipe, a coaxial perforated outer pipe, a cylindrical filter element of filament material, which fills the space between the pipes, and end caps for the pipes. The filter element (5) is made of matted polypropylene filament, with a mass fineness of 50000-100000 DTEX. - The individual filaments are of equal thickness, their width is statistically variable, their length is less than 30 mm, pref. 10-20 mm.
