Abstract

The lactic-acid fermentation of silage fodder is controlled by adding a compsn. contg. 70-98 wt% cereal grist, pref. barley grist as hydrocarbon substrate, 2-30 wt% malt, pref. barley malt as enzyme, not more than 10 wt% acrylic-acid derivs. pref. calcium- or sodium-acrylate as selective microbial inhibitor, and 0.01-0.04 wt% or 0.005-50.0 million organisms per g fodder lactic-acid bacteria. - To fodder which is difficult to ferment an extra 2-3 wt% grist, pref. barley grist may be added, to medium fermentation fodder an extra 1-2 wt%.
