Abstract
The base-colouration of hides is performed using 75-50 wt.% of the traditionally used amt. of colouring matter. The prepd. hides are coloured in vats without changing the colouring liquor, the colouring matter is added in 2 increments. The hides are treated at the end of the colouring process by the addn. of a polyfunctional nitrogen contg. organic agent. - In the coating process, depending on whether a casein contg. or a casein free coating is applied, the fixation of the coating on the leather is achieved by the proper choice of the wt. ratio of the polyacrylate or polyurethane dispersions used as binders and the pref. used polyfunctional organic nitrogen contg. agent, without the need for the application of a covering layer in a separate process.
