Abstract

A laundry detergent composition comprises: (a) at least 0.01 wt% of a detergent surfactant; (b) 0.1-15% of polymeric polycarboxylates selected from homo-polymeric polycarboxylates of mol wt above 4,000 and/or co-polymeric polycarboxylates; (c) 0.01-5% of polyamine soil release agents comprising a polyamine backbone of formula (I) having a modified polyamine of formula V(n+1)WmYnZ or a polyamine of formula (II) having a modified polyamine of formula V(n-k+1)WmYnY'kZ k is less than or equal to n. The polyamine backbone prior to modification has a wt greater than 200 daltons; (i) V units are terminal units of formula (a), (b) or (c) (ii) W units are backbone units of formula (a), (b) or (c) (iii) Y units are branching units of formula (a), (b) or (c) (iv) Z units are terminal units of formula a), (b) or (c) backbone linking R units are selected from 2-12C alkylene, 4-12C alkenylene, 3-12C hydroxyalkylene, 4-12C dihydroxyalkylene, 8-12C dialkylarylene, -(R1O)xR1, -(R1O)xR5(OR1)x-, (C H2CH(OR2)CH2O)z-(R1O)yR1(OCH2CH(OR2)CH2)w, -C(O)(R4)rC(O)-, and/or -CH2CH(OR2)CH2-(especially 2-12C alkylene, 8-12C dialkylarylene, -(R1O)xR1-, -(R1O)xR5(OR1)x-, (CH2CH(OR2)CH2O)z-(R1O)yR1(OCH2CH(OR2)CH2)w and/or CH2CH(OR2)CH2-, more especially 2-12C alkylene, 3-12C hydroxyalkylene, 4-12C dihydroxyalkylene, (R1O)xR1, -(R1O)xR5(OR1)x-, (CH2CH(OH)CH2O)z-, (R1O)yR1(OCH2CH(OH)CH2)w, most especially 2-12C alkylene; R1 = 2-6C alkylene, especially ethylene; R2 = H, -(R1O)xB, especially H; R3 = 1-18C alkyl, 7-12C arylalkyl, 7-12C alkyl substituted aryl, and/or 6-12C aryl (especially Me); R4 = 1-12C alkylene, 4-12C alkenylene, 8-12C arylalkylene, and/or 6-10C arylene (especially 2-12C alkylene, and/or 8-12Carylalkylene, more especially ethylene and/or butylene); R5 = 1-12C alkylene, 3-12C hydroxyalkylene, 4-12C dihydroxyalkylene, 8-12C dialklylarylene, -C(O)-, -C(O)NHR6NHC(O)-, -R1(OR1)-, -C(O)(R4)rC(O)-, CH2CH(OH)CH2-, CH2CH(OH)CH2O(R1O)yR1OCH2CH(OH)CH2, especially ethylene, -C(O)-, -C(O)NHR6NHC(O)-, R1(OR1)y-, -(CH2CH(OH)CH2O)z(R1O)yR1(OCH2CH(OH)-CH2)w- and/or -CH2CH(OH)CH2-, more especially -CH2CH(OH)CH2-; R6 = 2-12C alkylene or 6-12C arylene; E = units selected from H, 1-22Calkyl, 3-22C alkenyl, 7-22C arylalkyl, 2-22C hydroxyalkyl, -(CH2)pCO2M, -(CH2)qSO3M, -CH(CH2CO2M)CO2M, (CH2)pPO3M, -(R1O)xB-, and/or -C(O)R3 (especially H, 3-22C hydroxyallkyl, benzyl, 1-22C alkyl, -(R1O)xB-, C(O)R3, -(CH2)pCO2M, -(CH2)qSO3M, and/or -CH(CH2CO2M)-CO2M, more especially H, 1-22C alkyl, -(R1O)xB, and/or -C(O)R3, most especially (R1O)xB; when any E unit of N is H, the N is also not an N-oxide; B = H, 1-6C alkyl, (CH2)qSO3M, (CH2)p-CO2M, -(CH2)q(CHSO3M)CH2SO3M, (CH2)q(CHSO2M)CH2SO3M, -(CH2)pPO3M, and/or -PO3M, especially H, 1-6C alkykl, -(CH2)qSO3M, -(CH2)q(CHSO3M)-CH2SO3M, and/or -(CH2)q(CHSO2M)CH2SO3M, more especially H and/or (CH2)qSO3M, most especially H; M = H or water soluble cation to satisfy charge balance; X = water soluble anion; m = 4-400; n = 0-200; p = 1-6; q = 0-6; r,w,z = 0 or 1; x = 1-100; y = 0-100; and (d) balance adjunct ingredients. The ratio of the polymeric polycarboxylates to polyamine soil release agents is 100:1-1:1. Also claimed is a laundry detergent composition comprising: (a) at least 0.1wt% of a detersive surfactant; (b) 3.75-7.5% of polymeric polycarboxylates selected from homo-polymeric polycarboxylates of mol wt 4,000-7,000 and/or co-polymeric polycarboxylates of mol wt 2,000-100,000; (c) 0.3-4% of polyamine soil release agents as above; and (d) adjuvant ingredients. The ratio of the polymeric polycarboxylates to the soil release agents is 100:1-1:1. Use - The composition is especially useful for cleaning fabrics. Advantage - The composition provides improved soil dispersancy properties, especially for polar soils.
