Abstract

Medicament carrier used in an inhaler comprises a first screen (12) having a surface defining interstices. The screen acts as a carrier and is loaded with \- 1 dose of dry, powdered, agglomerated medicament particles (SM) loaded onto the screen so that the interstices are partially open and free of the particles. The second screen (14) is spaced from the first (12) and also has a surface defining interstices. In use, an air flow entrains and causes initial disintegration of the particles and impacts them onto the second screen where they are further disaggregated into particles of respirable size that move through the interstices of the second screen. The agglomerated particles preferably have a size of 0.05-3.0 mm. The screens are spaced by a similar distance. Each screen may be formed of woven or nonwoven materials. Woven materials include natural fibres, polymeric synthetic fibres, metal fibres or ceramic fibres, which may be surface plasma-treated or metal coated. Nonwoven materials include punched blanks, stamped blanks and photoacid etched materials. The interstices of both screens may be square, round, oval, hexagonal, octagonal, rhomboid or diamond shaped. The interstices of the two screens may be the same or different sizes.
