Abstract
A polyisocyanate-based polymer having dispersed metal salt in it is obtained by reacting an organic polyisocyanate with an aqueous composition of a metal salt. The polymer comprises the metal salt in an amount of at least 10 wt% based on the total dry wt. Also claimed are: (1) a process for the preparation of the polymer as above comprising: (a) the amount of metal salt sufficient to provide the resultant polymer with a metal salt content of at least 10 wt% based on the dry wt of the polymer; and (b) the polyisocyanate being employed in an amount of at least 10 pts wt per 100 pts wt of the aqueous composition, with the proviso that when the composition comprises an additional isocyanate-reactive substance in an amount of more than 60 wt%, the amount of polyisocyanate employed does not exceed 70 pts wt; (2) a process for producing a metal-containing powder having an average particle size of less than 1 micrometer comprising calcining at 300-1500 deg C a polyisocyanate-based composition as above; (3) a metal-containing powder obtainable by the process as above having an average BET surface area of more than 200 m2/g; and (4) a composition containing the metal-containing powder obtained according to the process of (2) and comprising a bulk phase having dispersed in it 0.1-50 wt% of the powder based on the total wt of the bulk phase and the powder.
