Abstract
Aminophenol derivatives of formula (I) are new. One of R1 and R2 = H and the other is H, Cl or F; R3 = OCH2CH=CH2, -CH=CH-COOX or A-Ar; and R4 = R'; or R3 = R' and R4 = OCH2CH=CH2, -CH=CH-COOX or A-Ar'; R' = H, 1-4C alkoxy, 1-4C alkyl, 1-4C hydroxyalkyl (preferably with the OH in the terminal position) or halo; X = H or a cation; Ar = 5-amino-2-hydroxyphenyl; Ar' = 2-amino-5-hydroxyphenyl; A = (CH2)x, O(CH2)yO, O(CnH2n-z(OH)z)O, O(C2H4O)u or O(C3H6O)v; x, y, u, v = 1-4; n = 1 or 2 and n = 1; or n = 3-10 and z = 1 or 2. Also claimed are oxidation dyes for keratin fibres containing coupler components and (I) as developers, in an aqueous carrier.
