Abstract
Alcohol ethoxylate surfactant compositions are claimed which contain compounds of formulae HO-(EO)n1-R1 and HO-(EO)n2-R2 in such proportions that the overall average number of carbons (C*) in alkyl groups R1 and R2 is 10.5-12 and the overall average number of EO units (EO*) is 4.5-8 and where n1 = 3-8; n2 = 4.5-9; R1 = 8-12C alkyl with average number of C atoms from 9 up to 12; and R2 = 12-16C alkyl with average number of C atoms 12-15. Also claimed are mixed ethoxylate surfactant compositions which comprise either : (a) HO-(EO)n3R3 with R3 made up of 2 alkyl populations (one with 8-12C (average from 9 up to less than 12) and the other of 12-16C (average 12-15)) and with n3 also of 2 populations (3-8 and 4.5-9) such that C* for R3 is 10.5-12 and EO* is 4.5-8 (i.e as the mixture above); or (b) HO-(EO)n4-R4 with n4 = 4.5-8 and R4 = alkyl residues of mixed alcohol where one alkyl portion is of 8-12 (average from 9 up to less than 12)C and the other is of 12-16 (average 12-15)C, the value of C* in R4 being 10.5-12.
